BJP to submit chargesheet against CM to President

Baddi, January 11
State BJP in charge Balbir Punj said the party's central leadership would soon submit a chargesheet, detailing various allegations of corruption levelled against Virbhadra Singh, to President Pranab Mukherjee and demand his resignation. He said all charges were based on facts.

He said at the party's core committee meeting that they would continue their protest against the Chief Minister till he resigned.

The BJP core committee had decided to make corruption cases involving Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh a national issue.

Addressing mediapersons, Punj said the BJP would soon launch the "Virbhadra Mukt Himachal" campaign in which signatures would be taken to garner public opinion for his ouster.

He said the common man was fed up with corruption and he wanted to oust the Congress. Keeping these sentiments in mind, the BJP has named its February 16 Narendra Modi's Sujanpur rally as Parivartan Rally and this would pave the way for the ouster of the Chief Minister.

He said price rise and corruption prevailing in the state and the Centre were the major issues which they would highlight.

Launching a scathing attack on the Congress-led UPA government, he said it had failed on all fronts. The Congress lacked the courage to project Rahul Gandhi as their Prime Ministerial candidate because he had little contact with the masses while Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had been rejected within the party. The Congress could not think beyond the Gandhi family.

Dismissing any threat from the Aam Aadmi Party, Punj said their demeanour was full of pride. He said the resignation of Kangra MP Rajan Sushant from the party would fail to have any effect as he had already been suspended from the party.

Taking a dig at Virbhadra Singh, Punj said his involvement in corruption cases was exposed in the revelation that apples worth crores had been transported in a 1995 model scooter and an oil tanker. He said the BJP had provided documentary evidence of how he had procured loans worth crores from companies which did not exist.

Others present on the occasion were PK Dhumal and state BJP president Satpal Satti.

Donations for Modi rally

The BJP will collect voluntary donations ranging from ~10 to ~1,000 for the February 16 Modi rally slated in Sujanpur in Hamirpur district. Balbir Punj said since Modi's rallies were receiving an overwhelming response, those extending monetary assistance would be given a coupon to attend the rally. He said a special 14-day campaign would be launched from January 27 to February 9 to mobilise support for the rally.

Other decisions

* To continue protest against the Chief Minister till he resigns

*Will soon launch "Virbhadra Mukt Himachal" campaign

* To highlight price rise and corruption as major election issue.

HLP favours election pact with AAP
Tribune News Service

Shimla, January 11
The Himachal Lokhit Party (HLP) will soon decide its strategy for the Lok Sabha poll and make all possible efforts to ensure that there is no division of “anti-Congress and anti-BJP” votes.

“The party is in the process of shortlisting the candidates and also in touch with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and if no understanding is reached, it may contest all four seats,” party general secretary KR Balnatah said.

HLP leaders had called on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to congratulate him on the success of his party and told him that they had been fighting against corruption. Balnatah said applications for ticket had been invited online and they had strong candidates capable of defeating the traditional candidates of the BJP and the Congress on all seats. He did not rule out the possibility of party chief Maheshwar Singh contesting from Mandi, Dulo Ram from Kangra and Babu Ram Mandyal from Hamirpur.

Proposes zero hour

A debate has been triggered by a letter shot off by president of the HLP Maheshwar Singh to Assembly Speaker Brij Bihari Lal Butail, asking for zero hour in the House on the pattern of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.

Maheshwar Singh had pointed out that members from both sides of the House had been creating a ruckus in the House, demanding discussions on various important issues and allowing members to raise their issues during zero hour would save time and also satisfy them. "It is a ticklish issue and I will discuss it with the Leader of the House and the Leader of the Opposition but the matter would have to be placed before the Business Advisory Committee which will take the decision," the Speaker said.

HPCA parking to make way for houses
Anurag Thakur to move court against government decision

Dharamsala, January 11
The state government has decided to construct 328 houses under the Integrated Housing and Slum Development Project at a place where the previous government had planned parking area for the HPCA stadium. The move has again brought the HPCA and the state government at loggerheads.

The foundation stones, including the one laid by former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal for parking facility and the one laid by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today for dwelling units for the poor, now stand side by side in lower Barol near the stadium.

The grant for the construction of 328 houses for the poor was received by the state government during the stint of the previous BJP government. The project was sanctioned when Kishan Kapoor was the Minister for Housing and Urban Development. However, the previous government failed to identify land for the project.

The present government initially decided to construct houses near the Kala Pull area on the Dharamsala-McLeodganj road. Later, it was shifted to a place where the parking for the HPCA cricket stadium had been planned. Minister for Housing and Urban Development Sudhir Sharma took keen interest to get the project through.

The move of the state government has evoked criticism from HPCA officials and BJP MP from Hamirpur and HPCA president Anurag Thakur.

Talking to The Tribune over the phone, Anurag alleged that the move clearly illustrated that the Congress government was vindictive.

Parking near the HPCA stadium was the necessity for the town as the administration had observed that during the IPL or other international cricket matches hosted here, the entire area got choked with vehicles of spectators. If the parking was built at the place, it would regulate traffic during the events organised at the international cricket stadium, Anurag said.

He also said the HPCA would approach the court against the government decision to construct houses. Anurag said the Dharamsala cricket stadium was going to get about 6 or 7 international cricket matches after June since it was the safest destination.

Spokesperson of the HPCA Sanjay Sharma said houses had been planned on the area without any technical study. The area was near a rivulet that could receive flash floods. Constructing houses near it would pose a threat to the lives of dwellers, he said.
