Fire at cosmetics shop
Smoke coming out of the cosmetics shop located in the Gur Mandi area of Ludhiana on Friday.Ludhiana, January 3
Goods worth lakhs were gutted when a fire broke out at a cosmetics shop near Gur Mandi, here this afternoon. Short-circuit is believed to be the reason behind the incident and the owner has claimed to have suffered a loss of Rs 40 lakh.

Civic body’s gift to city — a call centre

The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation will start a call centre to benefit residents. The call centre will have a dedicated toll-free line where residents can call and register their complaints. The MC has already got the number which will be operational from January 31.

City lags behind in tourism, needs to buck up
Ludhiana lacks places of cultural interest, and so I think the city is in a dire need to develop tourism and cultural centres at the earliest. Even though signages have been placed but even then the sites have not been properly maintained. People have so many galleries to visit in Chandigarh and other cities, but when it comes to our city, there are hardly any places to visit. A seven-day NSS camp of SAS College, Khanna, ended on a high note. As many as 120 volunteers participated in the camp at Lalouri Kalan village. On the occasion, the volunteers conducted cleanliness drive in the village school and health centre.

Sales of TVS Motor go up by 2 per cent
TVS Motor Company recorded 2 per cent increase in the total sales in the month of December 2013, registering 1,59,495 units against 1,56,221 units recorded in the month of December in 2012. Spokesperson for the company said the company’s total exports grew by 27 per cent with sales increasing from 20,251 units in the month of December 2012 to 25,797 units in December 2013. Two wheeler exports registered a growth of 21 per cent with sales growing from 17,169 units in December 2012 to 20,694 units in December 2013.

Ludhiana: A patient belonging to Khanna has been confirmed positive for dengue at the Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital, Banur, on Friday. With this the count of patients from Ludhiana district has reached to 1,033 along with 489 patients from other districts and 143 from other states in various hospitals of Ludhiana.

The police have booked a woman for duping a businessman of Rs 5.70 lakh. The accused, Payal Sharma, alias Navjit Kaur, posed as a bank employee.
