Congress workers upbeat over Dolly's appointment
Parmod Mehta

Dera Bassi, January 3
Equations have been changed in the Dera Bassi Congress after the release of the new list of office-bearers of the state Congress.

Congress leader Manpreet Kaur Dolly has been elected secretary of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC).

Though some party leaders have been opposing her appointment, workers are feeling encouraged.

Party workers said a void had been filled with the appointment of Dolly who deserved this post.

She was honoured by party workers at a meeting in Lalru recently in which over 400 party workers participated.

Speaking on the occasion, party workers said with this appointment the party would be strengthened in this area that faced some setbacks in the past as some Congress leaders have joined the SAD after the previous Punjab Assembly elections.

Dolly, who is the daughter of former finance minister and SAD leader late Capt Kanwaljeet Singh, has joined the Congress last year when the SAD had ignored her during the Assembly elections. She fought the Assembly elections from the Dera Bassi as an Independent and got 8,000 votes. Deepinder Singh Dhillon, who has among the main Congress leaders of the area, joined the SAD when he was denied the Congress ticket in the Assembly elections. He also fought the elections as an Independent and later joined the SAD.

Dolly said she would work to strengthen the party at the grass-roots level and all issues of people and party workers would be redressed.
