Man killed in road mishap:
A man was killed when a car, in which he travelling, collided with a memorial gate built on the Bathinda road here on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Rohit Kumar (30) of Jalalabad in Fazilka district. He, along with one Ajay Kumar, was on his way to Bathinda. Rohit, who was at the wheel, lost control of the car and rammed it into the memorial gate. The police have started inquest proceedings.

Migrant labourer found dead:
A migrant labourer, Suresh Kumar (35), was found dead near a tea stall in Indira Nagari here on Thursday. Unable to get any work for the past two to three days, the daily wage earner had no shelter at night and slept near the tea stall, residents of a nearby locality said. Cold or hunger could be the cause of his death, they said. He was a native of Saharanpur in UP.

Free medical camps held:
In all, 1070 people were examined during a free medical check-up camp at Tapparian Khurd village in the district on Thursday. The Maharaj Lal Dass Brahma Nand Bhuriwale Garib Dassi Charitable Trust organised the camp to commemorate the 124th birth anniversary of Maharaj Lal Dass, second mater of the Bhuriwale sect. At another free medical camp in Bhukhri village, 225 people were examined. The Guru Nanak Mission Medical and Education Trust, Dhahan Kaleran, in collaboration with US-based NRI Balihar Singh Pooni organised the camp

Four drug peddlers held:
The district police have arrested four drug peddlers with 60 kg poppy husk, 10,000 narcotic tablets, injections and 31 bottles of illegal liquor. The poppy husk was recovered from Gurcharan Singh of Khamano while Shiv Raj Singh of Khanna was held with the tablets and injections. Gurbinder Singh and Jatinder Pal Singh of Sirhind were held with the illegal liquor. All the accused have been booked under the NDPS Act.

Man held with gun:
The CIA have arrested Daya Krishan of Sanjharwas village in Bhiwani district, Haryana, on Gaggarpur-Sajuma road on the charges of abduction. The CIA recovered a .315 bore pistol, four live cartridges and a Skoda car from him. Daya has allegedly confessed to being a member of an inter-state gang, Kala Bhathua. The CIA staff members said Daya was wanted in six criminal cases.

Mass wedding solemnised:
A mass wedding of 76 needy couples was solemnised on Thursday by Kar Sewa sect Sarhali during a programme organised at Gurdwara Gurpuri Sahib in Sohawa, 25 km from here. The marriages were solemnised on the concluding occasion of a four-day function held to observe the death anniversary of sect founders Tara Singh and Charan Singh.

Bid to cut open ATM:
Unidentified miscreants allegedly tried to cut open an unguarded ATM belonging to Punjab National Bank at Miani on Thursday. The accused used a gas cutter but failed to reach the cash vault. No clue of the thieves could be found as the CCTV camera was non-functional. Senior Superintendent of Police Narinder Bhargav said they had lodged an FIR on a complaint by bank manager Ramesh Kumar.

An executive member of the Chandigarh-Punjab chapter of architects union and vice-chairman of Patiala sub-centre, Rajinder Singh Sandhu, has bagged the Outstanding Member Award in the National Convention of Architects held in Chennai some days ago.

Youth ends life: A youth of Kalwa village committed suicide here today by jumping in front of a train. The police have taken the body into custody and started investigations. Rampal was a drug addict. He had been under mental depression for some days.

Over 350 donate blood:
Over 350 youths from various villages of Mahendragarh subdivision donated blood in a camp organised jointly by the Sangharshsheel Mitra Mandal (SMM ), a voluntary organisation, and the Mahendergarh District Red Cross Society, to celebrate the birthday of Raj Kumar Khatod, a senior member of the SMM and a councillor of the Mahendragarth Zila Parishad, at the mini-secretariat inMahendragarh, about 55 km from Rewari, yesterday.
