Pending projects to be ready in 2014

There is hope for residents next year, as some development projects that have been delayed for the past several years might see the light of the day. These projects include Lakkar Bridge, Indoor Stadium on Pakhowal Road, Expressway along the Sidhwan Canal, besides several others.

Footbridge inauguration put off

All hopes of the Northern Railways to gift residents with a footbridge on the New Year’s Day have been dashed. The reason being the bridge that was to be inaugurated on January 1 will now be inaugurated after January 10.

Six MC employees caught reporting late on duty

Six Ludhiana Municipal Corporation employees posted in the MC Zone B office were caught reporting late on duty today. Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria made a surprise check on the premises of the Zone B office located near Shingar Cinema, here.

Some party hard, some pray to ring in New Year

Residents welcomed the New Year with cheer and gaiety. All celebrated the day in their own style. Some partied all night to welcome the New Year, while others celebrated the arrival of the New Year with family.

Single-stage taxation system a problem for traders
Ludhiana, December 31
Traders are facing difficulty due to the single-stage taxation system, the notification for which was issued recently this month by the Excise and Taxation Department. The notification states that if any subsequent dealer makes any inter-state sale of single stage tax goods the tax liability will be nil and at the same time the input tax credit (ITC) available will also be nil.

Ludhiana: New Year celebrations were carried out by residents of Phase II, Dugri, with great pomp and show here on Tuesday. The Association of Residents’ honoured senior citizens and took a pledge to serve elders with respect and humility. Songs were sung by ladies and a music performance by teenagers was organised.

Man dies in road mishap

A 24- year-old carpenter died in a road accident near the Municipal Corporation Zone- D office in the Sarabha Nagar area here today. The victim was identified as Surjit Singh of Karnail Singh Nagar.
