Athletes flout rules, run barefoot on tracks
Chandigarh, November 27 Wearing proper footwear, exclusively meant for sports activities, is one of the essential pre-requisite for participating in such events. Majority of athletes, representing various BEd and evening education colleges were caught unaware of the rules and disadvantages of running barefoot on the semi-grassy tracks. “Many participants are running bare feet and nobody is complaining or facing any inconvenience. Our group is not among the professional ones and we are here to test our stamina,” said Parampreet Kaur. A coach of a team said, “These athletes are not professional like regular athletes. Back in their colleges or native villages, they do not wear spikes while participating in local tournaments. So, this has become their habit. Perhaps if given spikes, they might just not be able to give their best act.” This action has however exposed loopholes and laidback attitude of coaches. Many teams are, reportedly, participating under the non-guidance of experienced coaches. “As an athlete, one should understand the basic needs of a sportsman. A serious competitor will follow rules to ensure his good performance. In our country, every good athlete is facing the same problem. Many sportsman are still caught unaware of basic rules that one must follow while playing any sport,” said a former coach of athletics. |
