The convict was sentenced to life imprisonment in January 2009 by a Chandigarh court.

Administrator’s Advisory Council reconstituted

An art historian, BN Goswami, the Director of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) and the Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University (PU) have been included in the Administrator’s Advisory Council.

At her age when most of the students are setting their goal, this 16-year-old fan of Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream has made it big. Riding high on success, city girl Guntaj Arora has become the editor of a quarterly literary magazine — Miracle.
The print edition of the magazine was unveiled on the second day of the Chandigarh Book Fair. The literary magazine has fiction and poetry, contributed by young writers from the UK, Ireland and the USA. The poetry section has 48 contributors and the fiction section eight. Besides, the magazine has carried an interview of budding authors.

Policemen’s health last on authorities’ agenda

Function exposes rift between councillors

Last year, the function was held at Nehru Park in Sector 22, but this year, the day was celebrated at Dadu Majra. The change of venue did not go down well with a group of councillors, who organised a function at Nehru Park.

50% tickets sold out for inaugural run

There is a mad scramble for the Chandigarh-Amritsar Express tickets. With the inaugural run scheduled for Friday (tomorrow), 50 per cent of the tickets have already been sold out.

Restricted holiday in UT today

The Chandigarh Administration has declared November 15 as a restricted holiday in government offices, boards, corporations and institutions on account of Muharram.

Road closed

The V-3 road in Sectors 45 and 46 will remain closed for 20 days due to repair of the sewerage line. The road will be blocked at the rear of Dev Samaj College, Sector 45. Residents are advised to take alternative routes during this period.

Smart cards to provide insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh to accredited journalists

The Punjab government has introduced smart cards for the accredited journalists to provide them with an insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh. The insurance cover will be extended to all the journalists across the state, who hold yellow cards, thereby covering more than 3,000 journalists at the cost of Rs 35 lakh.

5 hurt in group clash
