Govt forms higher education council:
The state government has constituted the Punjab Higher Education Council under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan and the National Higher Education Mission. An official spokesman said Education Minister Sikander Singh Maluka would be the vice-chairman and Principal Secretary Roshan Sunkaria would be the chief executive officer.

Junk dealer among 2 hurt in scrap blast:
Two persons, including a scrap dealer, were injured while trying to extract metal from a shell at their residence in Ramdass Nagar near the Jalandhar-Rajpura road on Thursday. The injured, Jagatpal and Vijay Kumar, were rushed to the Civil Hospital from where they were referred to the PGI, Chandigarh.

Ludhiana
Dengue: 16 more test positive:
Sixteen more patients tested positive for dengue in hospitals across the city today. Out of these, eight are from Ludhiana and three from rural areas. Five patients are from other districts of the state - Two each from Hoshiarpur and Fatehgarh Sahib and one from Jalandhar.

Moga
Case against Jain adjourned till Dec 9:
The case against Moga MLA Joginder Pal Jain and his family was on Thursday adjourned to December 9 due to the one-day strike called by lawyers. Jain has been accused of raising an illegal colony. The local court was to take a decision on declaring MLA's elder son Puneet Jain a proclaimed offender.

Patiala
Three of family commit suicide:
Following the alleged suicide of three members of a family, the Samana city police has registered a case pertaining to abetment to suicide against the victim's brother and his relatives. The victims have been identified as Kamaljit Singh, his wife Kuldeep Kaur and son Vikramjit Singh. Sources said Kamaljit, in his suicide note, had blamed his brothers Harjeet Singh and Harvinder Singh who owed him money, but refused to return.

3 theft cases registered:
Three cases of theft were registered in the city in the past 24 hours. Raj Singh of Sector 29-B reported that someone had stolen his Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle (UP-32EW-3109) from the parking lot of Elante Mall. Sachin Kumar of Kajheri village accused Sukhwinder Singh of Sector 46 of stealing sanitary items from the government toilet in Sector 35. The accused was arrested. Yash Pal Singh of the Industrial Area Phase II reported a theft of Rs 1.80 lakh from his office almirah.

Srinagar
Man falls to death:
A mason fell to death while constructing a house at Karan Nagar in the city. A police spokesman said Mohammad Ayoub Dangroo, a resident of Tankipora, Srinagar, fell while working at the house of Sameer Ahmad Wani at Karan Nagar. He died on the spot.
