Animal Husbandry Dy Director held
Jalandhar, October 17 The Station House Officer (SHO) of the Division Number 7 police station, Sukhdev Singh, said Dr Gopal Sharma, working under the Deputy Director, had alleged that his performance report had been tampered with by doing some cuttings in the report of year 2009-10 and his wrong report was sent affecting his career growth. In his complaint, he said his report was wrongly presented the next year and the official kept the file with himself this year thus affecting his promotion. Dr Sharma said he had made a complaint in this regard to the department, but there was no action. He said the case had been moved to a lower court, which had on Wednesday recommended lodging of a case against the Deputy Director. The SHO said the arrest had been made following the orders of the court. Dr Ghuman was booked under Sections 467 and 469 of the IPC. |

Inquiry officer changed in Daroli Khurd school row
Jalandhar, October 17 Anil Kumar, math master, Government High School, Daroli Khurd, had alleged that during a visit to the school for an inquiry into a complaint made by students’ parents against him (Anil Kumar), the inquiry officer had told students that Anil would be transferred from the school soon. The inquiry officer, Deputy DEO Harinder Singh, however, had denied all such allegations saying that he had made no such comment and the findings or observations by him hadn’t been disclosed to anyone. The Tribune had highlighted the issue in a news report carried in The Tribune on October 15. While a complaint regarding the incident had also been sent to the DGSE by Anil Kumar, the Education Department then appointed Surinder Pal, principal, Government Senior Secondary School, Daroli Khurd, as the new inquiry officer on the issue. Meanwhile, with seemingly no end to the controversy, Anil Kumar has written a fresh letter to District Education Officer (Secondary) Neelam Kumari demanding that the new inquiry officer be changed as well. Anil Kumar has alleged that on his first visit to the school for the inquiry yesterday, the new officer brought outsiders (who are not a part of the Education Department) along with him to the school. He has also demanded action against him alleging that the new inquiry officer has released his observations to the public before officially handing over the findings of the report to higher officials. |
Re-carpeting of Guru Nanak Pura road begins
Jalandhar, October 17 The road that connects Laddowali Road with the busy GT Road in Chuggitti had been proving a nightmare for motorists for the past many years as it had developed deep potholes at many places and bitumen from a major part of the road had given way. Though the construction cost of the work, allocated to a contractor some time ago for about Rs 40 lakh, has escalated to Rs 50 lakh, yet the cash-strapped civic body has taken public convenience into consideration and started the work. As the road is in a low-lying area and light showers are enough to flood the stretch, experts are of the view that an "elevated cemented" road is the only permanent solution to the problem. Moreover, the provision of permanent storm water drains on either sides of the road to flush out the water accumulated will solved the problem. Putting their lives in danger, scores of motorists and road users are commuting through this link that even lacks streetlights. Not only the area residents, but also the vegetable vendors of the Apani Mandi had lodged protest against the indifferent attitude of the civic body many times. The area residents have heaved a sigh of relief with the MC starting the re-carpeting of the link, claimed Samsher Singh, a resident of Guru Nanak Pura. |
Weeds, encroachments mar beauty of PUDA Complex
Jalandhar, October 17 Vacant plots turning into garbage dumping places, encroachments by dealers selling second-hand cars and dilapidated roads have marred the beauty of the PUDA Complex. Actually vacant plots here have not only turned into garbage dumping places, but also several feet high weeds have also grown there. As a result, the vacant plots have turned into breeding places for mosquitoes, which create problems for persons working in nearby shop-cum-offices (SCOs) and other commercial establishments. So much so, these vacant plots have also become home to snakes as a one-and-a-half feet snake entered a nearby building. Panic stricken employees working in the building ran for safety. Luckily the snake disappeared in a few minutes at its own. Besides, encroachments on footpaths and parking lots of the PUDA Complex by junk dealers and car dealers continue, despite the issuance of notices by the department concerned to remove the same. Interestingly, the mini-parks located on the PUDA complex opposite the Suvidha Centre on Ladowali Road have virtually been turned into parking lots, as car dealers have started displaying second-hand cars in the parks for resale. Similarly, junk dealers dump their old cars on the footpaths and parking lots in the PUDA complex. Earlier, the PUDA authorities had issued notices to junk dealers to mend their ways after the area councillor of Ward 31 Raminder Kaur Dhindsa wrote on October 15 to the Additional Chief Administrator (ACA) of PUDA for taking appropriate action for removing the encroachments by the junk dealers at PUDA Complex following Jalandhar Tribune highlighting the nuisance. A number of automobile junk dealers, located on the PUDA complex, had encroached on the footpaths and parking lots right under the nose of the authorities, which created nuisance for the passersby, pedestrians and visitors to the complex. An employee working in one of the buildings in the complex said that the PUDA authorities should set the complex in order by cutting the wild growth and taking action against people indulging in encroachments. ‘Corrective measures will be taken soon’“I am not aware of the situation in the complex as I have joined the post recently. I will check the matter with my subordinates and corrective measures will be taken soon as per requirement,” Jaskaran Singh, Additional Chief Administrator, PUDA said. |

Among those in the front row was chief guest of the function and Minister for Jails, Sarwan Singh Phillaur, Divisional Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and District and Sessions Judge. While the MLA is himself away on a foreign tour, his nominee Kulbir Saini confirmed that Pargat had filed the complaint to Secretary Vidhan Sabha before moving off. The case pertains to the time when Shruti Singh was the Deputy Commissioner here. The seating arrangements for the same had reportedly been made by SDM-1 Iqbal Singh Sandhu. There was no option but to keep the second row for the MLAs”, he quipped adding that he was unaware of any such complaint lodged by Pargat Singh.
