Exemption from advance tax
Excise and Taxation Dept officials to visit yarn units

Before exempting yarn dealers and traders from the advance tax, Excise and Taxation Department officials will be personally visiting the units of dealers to ascertain if actually the knitting of fabric is taking place and machines are in functional order.

Protest of employees of ESIC, Model Hospital, Bharat Nagar, Ludhiana, entered fourth day today. The agitated employees alleged that the hospital authorities are forcing them to do the duties which are not part of their job profile and if they refuse to do these duties, they are allegedly harassed by issuing show-cause notices.

Adopting pressure-tactics and openly coming to the rescue of a “tainted” patwari Jaspreet Singh Jassi of Taraf Saidan, who was caught red-handed while accepting bribe, the patwaris of Ludhiana city today held a protest and announced to go on leave for one month till an FIR was registered against the leaders of Active Anti-Corruption Group, who “forcibly” took the government fees from patwari Jaspreet Singh Jassi, when the incident took place.

Multigrain instant porridge developed
Ludhiana: The Department of Food Science and Technology (FST) of the PAU has developed an instant porridge using whole grain flour (atta) of various food grains like wheat, maize, grams, soybean, barley and oats. Dr Amarjeet Kaur, Head, FST, said, "Instant porridge is a breakfast cereal food, which does not require any preparation in the kitchen. It is a high protein low fat product, supplemented with complex carbohydrates and dietary fiber."

Minor beaten up by employer

A 12- year-old boy was assaulted by his employer and the others on the suspicion of stealing Rs 3,000 from a shop. The child who was thrashed in full public view near MBD Mall was spotted by Narinder Singh, employee of a Child Helpline office.

The police has recovered an unidentified body of a person from Guru Nanak Mohalla near Military Ground.

Youth, woman killed in road accident
Samrala, October 14
A youth was killed and another was injured in a road accident on Samrala-Biza road near Nagra village. Reportedly a truck coming from opposite side collided head-on with their motor cycle resulting in on-the-spot death of a youth while the other was seriously injured.

5 booked in attempt to murder case
Ludhiana: The city police has booked five persons in an attempt to murder case. The accused have been identified as Babban, Sukhpreet Singh, Tirath Singh, Vicky and Sukhwinder Singh. The accused persons had attacked Manmohan Singh, alias Mani, with swords and even fired shots at him. The victim was rushed to a hospital where his condition was stated to be serious.
