2 MC officials to pay Rs 4 lakh
Chandigarh, September 27
Two officials of the municipal corporation — SS Bida, Chief Engineer, and Mukesh Anand, Superintending Engineer, Buildings and Roads — will have to pay Rs 4 lakh spent on their "foreign tour, which ended before it could start in May".

Chargesheet filed against I-T officer
Chandigarh, September 27
The CBI today filed a chargesheet against income tax officer Rakesh Jain, who was arrested on February 6 this year on a charge of taking a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a real estate agent. Accepting the chargesheet, the CBI court today issued summons to Jain’s mother Kanta Jain and made her an accused in the case as the money was recovered from her undergarments. The next date of hearing is October 9.

Commission summons GMSH-16 medical superintendent
Chandigarh, September 27
The UT Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission today summoned medical superintendent of the GMSH, Sector 16, Dr Rajiv Vadehra, also the acting Director Health Services (DHS), for explaining “why Suman has not been paid the full amount as per its orders and show cause why he should not be sentenced to imprisonment for defying the orders.”

Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, today announced that Zirakpur would be developed as next IT Hub of the country and a separate Electronic Industrial Cluster would also be created here. He said this at the inauguration of Sewerage Treatment Plant and 66 kV sub-station at Singhpura and Seikhpur Kalan in Dera Bassi built with a cost of Rs 52 crore. Badal said Mohali would be developed as one of the model district in the state, where IT and Electronics hubs would be set up.

Folk band enthrals audience

Folk band “Just Ittefaaq” featuring Jasleen Aulakh (lead vocalist) Nitin Parashar on bass, Rohit on lead guitar and Naaz performed at the Tagore Theatre. 37 school buildings unsafe in district says DC

There are 37 unsafe school buildings in district and keeping in view the safety of the students, they will be shifted to nearby schools, with the consent of village panchayats, said Arun Sekhri, Deputy Commissioner during the District Vigilance Monitoring Committee meeting presided over by MP Sukhdev Singh Libra.

UK varsity holds workshop

University of Surrey (UK) and Cultural Resource Conservation Initiative (CRCI) jointly organised a workshop on “Cultural Memories and Amnesia” at Aam Khas Bagh, Sirhind. Directors of pvt firm booked, one held

The UT police has registered a case of cheating, criminal conspiracy and criminal breach of trust against directors of an IT Park-based software company, Mobera Systems Private Limited. It has booked its directors, including Puneet Vatsayan and others, for a fraud of Rs 5 crore.
