Abohar
Irrigation official killed in mishap
: A Sub-Divisional Engineer (SDE) of the Irrigation Department was on Friday crushed to death by a truck near Panniwala village on the Abohar-Muktsar road. Sikri was taken to the Civil Hospital here but the doctors declared him brought dead.

Tewari to inaugurate SAARC meet today
: The 12th Apex Body International Meet of the SAARC Diploma Engineers Forum will be inaugurated here on Saturday by Manish Tewari, Minister for Information and Broadcasting. Over 150 delegates, including 44 from foreign countries, will be exchanging views on the technical know-how, new inventions, environmental and engineering related issues. 

Eight IGPs, two DIGs transferred: The state government on Friday transferred eight IGPs and two DIGs. Arun Kumar Oraon has been posted the IGP, Community Policing; Kuldeep Singh IG, Training; RP Mittal IG, Training Armed Battalions; Pramod Ban IG-cum-Director, Special Security Group; Gautam Cheema IG/CDO, Bahadurgarh; Surinder Singh IG, IVC; Paramraj Singh IGP, Jalandhar (Zone II) and Tejinderpal Singh IGP, EOW. Lok Nath has been made the DIG, Border Range, Amirtsar, and Gurinder Singh Dhillon the DIG, Jalandhar range. 

10 zones for drug licences: The Punjab Government will establish 10 zones in the state for issuing licences for the sale of restricted drugs in the state. A spokesperson said the state government had taken this decision under the Drug and Cosmetic Rules 1945 and a notification had also been issued. The zones will be established at Amritsar, Ajitgarh, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Bathinda, Patiala, Sangrur, Hoshiarpur, Ferozepur and Gurdaspur.

Charas seized:The Chandigarh Police arrested Abhidesh, a resident of a poultry farm, Shastri Nagar, Mani Majra, from near the Electricity Office, Kishangarh, Chandigarh, and recovered 540 gm charas. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at the Mani Majra police station and an investigation has been 
initiated.

Ludhiana
Man arrested for extortion attempt
: The police has arrested a Sangrur resident, Jaswinder Singh, for allegedly demanding a ransom of Rs 1 crore from a city-based doctor couple. The accused reportedly was debt-ridden and had even unsuccessfully tried to sell his kidney. The doctors approached the police and the accused was arrested.
