Asha workers plan protest in New Delhi
: Asha workers from Punjab would protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on September 13 if the Union and state governments failed to fulfill their demands by then. Addressing mediapersons here, Asha Workers Union state president said they were not getting any remuneration for the extra work being done by them. She said the state as well as the Union Government had assured them of addressing their demands, but to no avail.

35-year-old HIV patient ends life
: A 35-year-old HIV positive patient, who was found to have contracted TB, ended his life by jumping from the second floor of the Civil Hospital here on Monday afternoon. Hailing from Bhale Ke village in Moga, he was admitted to the hospital on August 27. He asked his wife to fetch lunch. As soon as she left, he jumped to death.

Dairy official held taking bribe
: Patiala Vigilance Bureau officials on Monday arrested Assistant Dairy Field Officer Amritpal Singh for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complainant in the case. The accused was demanding the money for releasing a subsidy cheque. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered.

Robbers' gang busted; 4 held
: With the arrest of four persons, the police on Monday claimed to have busted a gang of robbers active in the area for the past some time. Three revolvers and a stolen vehicle were also recovered from them. Senior Superintendent of Police Mandip Singh Sidhu said the accused, Balwinder Singh, Harpreet Singh, Narinder Singh and Sukhjit Singh, were arrested from Bhojowal.

Dirba residents hold protest
:Dirba residents today blocked the Sangrur-Patran main road at Dirba for more than an hour. They demanded the arrest of four persons accused of raping a 30-year-old woman. The dharna was lifted when the police assured the protesters that action would be taken in two days.

Training programme for Bihar farmers
: A five-day specialised training programme on “Agroforestry and land management” for farmers of Bihar began at the Forest Research Institute (FRI) here on Monday. It has been sponsored by the Bihar Forest Department, wherein 30 farmers from various districts of Bihar like West Champaran, Saharsa, Gaya and Siwan are participating in the programme, which is part of the Hariyali Mission launched by the Bihar Government to increase the state forest cover. Inaugurating the programme, FRI Director PP Bhojvaid emphasised that the land of Bihar was fertile and the state kept huge agroforestry potential. Bhojvaid said he was hopeful that this training would also be helpful for improving livelihood of the people and offering solutions to the marketing issues for the farmers.

Drug peddler arrested: The police on Monday arrested a drug peddler from Chawla Chowk in the Karanpur area and seized 11 gm of brown sugar from his possession.He has been identified as Shahnawaz. During interrogation, he confessed to his involvement in the smuggling of drugs. He was presented in a court today, which sent him to jail.
