JMC awaits chief guest to install Indira’s statue
Jammu, August 28 Pertinently, the deadline of February 2013 has proved void as a result of delayed tactics by the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC). The announcement of installing the statue of the former Prime Minister was made in December 2012, when the JMC had announced to install the statute of the first lady Prime Minister of India at the Indira Chowk, Jammu, within two months of time, but till now the statue has undergone a nix growth. On one hand, the JMC was calming to install the statue within two months of time, but on the other hand, it had not even issued any official order for the installation of the same. At the time of announcing such project, officials of the JMC had stated that the order had been given for an 11-feet statue of Indira Gandhi to a local sculpture artist, Ravinder Jamwal, and the process of installation of the statue would be completed within a two-month period. JMC Commissioner KL Khajuria said, “The statue is ready with us from the past one month and is ready for the inauguration. But now we are trying to decide which dignitary should be called for the inauguration?” When asked about the reason of the delay, he tried linking it with political intervention. On asking him about the date of inauguration, he said, “I cannot say anything about it as I don’t have any idea about the same. It will be done only when any dignitary will be finalised for its inauguration?” It is pertinent to mention here that the work of the installation of the statue had been pending for past many years despite approval by the state government. |
