525 farmers get Rs 20 crore loan
Fatehgarh Sahib, July 31 This was said by Arun Sekhri, Deputy Commissioner, while addressing the Mega Agriculture Credit Camp being organised by Punjab National Bank's Patiala circle at PNB Farmers Training Centre here today. The camp was organised to distribute sanction letters of credit limits worth Rs 20.67 crore to 525 farmers belonging to six districts of the state. DK Sharma, DGM, circle head, Patiala, presided over the function. Deputy Commissioner advised the farmers to properly utilise the sanctioned loans and to adopt new agri techniques and latest equipment to reduce production cost. He further said farmers were the backbone of the state as the economy of the state depended on the agriculture Sector. He advocated to improve the financial condition of farmers by adopting allied agriculture occupations like bee keeping, fisheries, dairy farming and piggery. DK Sharma highlighted various schemes, specifically the financial inclusion scheme launched by the bank for the welfare of farmers. He called upon them to repay the loan in time to avoid unnecessary economical burden. On this occasion, a medical check-up camp and agri exhibition were also

‘Approved industrial units to get benefits as per new policy’
Fatehgarh Sahib, July 31 Press Secretary Nakesh Jindal said, “The industrialists brought to the notice of the principal secretary that as per the new industrial policy, only those industrial units set up in focal points and focal estates are entitled to get benefits, but there are no focal points and estates in majority of the towns such as
Sirhind, Rajpura, Samana, Pattran and Nabha. They said there is focal point in Mandi Gobindgarh and only 10 per cent of the industrial units are set up there.” They delegation demanded that the approved industrial units set up in the industrial zone should get the benefits as per the policy. Singh agreed to cover such industrial units on their demand. The delegation also raised the issue of E-billing. The chamber suggested that time bound VAT refunds could also help the trade regain its financial liquidity. They appealed to keep the VAT rates at par with the present CST rate of 2 per cent, to provide a level playing field to the states’ industry in the sales market outside the state. The principal secretary assured his assistance in assisting the industrialists and said that he would visit Mandi Gobindgarh soon. |

Giani Tarlochan Singh’s death mourned
Fatehgarh Sahib, July 31 Dr Jatinder Singh Sidhu, Director-Principal, termed the death of Jathedar Tarlochan Singh as an irreparable loss to Sikh Panth. Dr Sidhu announced a holiday tomorrow as a mark of respect to the departed soul. Similarly, staff and students led by Dr Gurmohan Singh Walia, Vice-Chancellor of Shri Guru Granth Sahib World University, and staff of BBSB Engineering College led by principal Dr Lakhwinder Singh held condolence meetings in their respective institutions and prayed for the peace of the departed soul. |

School director ‘thrashes’ student
Patiala, July 31 The victim’s father, Kamal Kumar, said his son, Chinkal, had not been keeping well for the past few months and was undergoing treatment at the PGI. “When Chinkal went to the school today, his school director insulted him for scoring poor marks and thrashed him badly,” he said. School director Rajveer Singh refuted the allegations. Rajveer said he had merely scolded Chinkal and a few other students who scored poor marks in their monthly tests. |

Woman jailed for drunken driving
Chandigarh, July 31 The woman was challaned last weekend at a naka meant at the Sector 22/23 light point. She was challaned as the alcohol quantity in her blood was 57mg/100 ml against the permissible limit of 30mg/100 ml. As she came to the court to get her challan released, she was made to stand in the court for the entire day. A court official said they were acting strictly against the menace of drunken driving and while more men were challaned, many women were also challaned by the police for the offence. |

In-laws charged with murder
Panchkula, July 31 In his complaint, Vinod Kumar, Mamta's brother, had alleged that his sister was being harassed by her in-laws for dowry. He claimed that they had given money to Mamta's in-laws family few days ago to buy a new motorcycle. He alleged that Mamta was set on fire on July 27. The station house officer of the area, Jai Parkash, said the police had registered a case of murder against the accused but no arrest had been so far. "We are investigating the case as Mamta had reportedly stated before the Duty Magistrate at the GMCH-32 that she was not being harassed by her in-laws," he said. Meanwhile, Mamta's parents alleged that she had given the statement under pressure. She is survived by a seven-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son.

This will be my second foreign trip after playing for Manchester Cup for junior category in Indonesia. I am looking forward to the 5-day long camp with the Bayern Munich staff,” said the ace player. Inder will be leaving for Germany on August 4. The teenager star accredits his success to his mentor Harjinder Singh. “He gave me all the basic knowledge and training regarding the game. Besides being a great player, he perfectly suits the role of a perfect coach. It is under his guidance that I have been able to gain momentum in my life,” said Inder. The Chandigarh Football Academy (CFA) has already produced scores of players for the nation and the player feels proud to be associated with the academy. The mid-fielder has also represented the city in five junior and sub-junior nationals. Inder was also a member of the team, which won the All-India UT Administrator Cup last year.
