Jaldhara Exports owner booked for evading tax
Ludhiana July 27
Taking action on the complaint of the Excise and Taxation Department, the city police registered a case against an owner of an export company for tax evasion of ~1.56 crore here yesterday. The accused has been identified as Raman Kumar Garg, a resident of Agar Nagar.

Sans uniform policy, mid-day meal scheme suffers

A file photo Due to the absence of an uniform policy on the Mid-day Meal Scheme in Punjab, in certain districts, students of primary and upper primary wings in government schools are getting freshly cooked meals while in other districts, there is a crisis of funds, cooks and unavailability of ration. In big district like Ludhiana, about 30,000 students in the city alone are being served mid-day meals daily. On this particular issue, complaints of "sub-standard" meals, late delivery of meals, meals not as per the menu etc keep on pouring in from several quarters.

Contractor defying HC orders: Area shopkeepers

Against the alleged ‘non compliance’ of the Punjab and Haryana High Court orders regarding parking alongside Ferozepur Road, area shopkeepers today held a protest against the contractor as well as the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation.

Dirty water irks residents

They have been getting water supply mixed with sewage for the past two days due to which residents are falling sick. Municipal Corporation (MC) officials are busy passing the buck on to other departments.

Documents seized, hotels told to pay luxury tax

During a survey conducted by the Excise and Taxation Department, documents of two city-based hotels have been taken into custody for not paying the luxury tax since its inception in 2008.

Protest against eatery for serving beef
Ludhiana, July 27
Socio-religious organisations staged a protest outside a restaurant at the Sarabha Nagar market late in the evening today. Activists of the organisations alleged that the restaurant served beef to customers. However, the restaurant manager denied the allegations and told the police that they serve buffalo meat and never served beef in the restaurant.

BSP to go it alone in Punjab

The BSP will contest the Parliamentary poll solo in Punjab without forging alliance with any of the political parties. National general secretary of the party and Rajya Sabha member Narinder Kashyap announced this today. He also said there was no place for the breakaway group of the BSP missionary in the party.

Following an anonymous complaint filed with the Union HRD Ministry, that "ragging" was rampant in Guru Nanak Girls College here, the police went on the college premises to take the statement today.

Man booked for abducting minor girl
Ludhiana, July 27
The police has registered a case against an unidentified person for abducting a minor girl here yesterday. As per the girl's father complaint, his 13-year-old daughter went to school on the Daba Road in the Focal Point area with her younger brother in a school van. But after sometime, her parents got the information that the girl left the school without informing anyone. The girl’s father, Sanjeev Rai, said some unidentified person abducted his daughter on the pretext of marrying her. A case has been registered against the unidentified person at Focal Point police station.
