Education Minister serves notices on officials
Hisar, July 27 Talking to The Tribune over the phone today, the minister termed the delay as “unfortunate”, the minister promised that the books would be provided to the students by the first week of August. “It is a serious matter and action will be taken against anyone found guilty, whether it’s government officials or the book publisher or both. The explanations have been sought from the officials concerned”, she said. The education minister maintained that the publisher firm would be blacklisted for its delay in providing the books, which has caused inconvenience to the students. “The publisher firm has informed that the truckloads of books have been dispatched to Haryana from Mumbai. He has expressed problems in binding of the printed material and has now assured that books for all the classes would be supplied in the next few days”, she stated. She said the government could rope in another publisher if this firm failed to supply the books by the end of this month. She expressed surprise over the delay despite the fact that the process had begun in August last year after getting clearance from the high-power purchase committee headed by Finance Minister HS Chattha. The minister, however, maintained that books for Classes IX to XII are available in the market and the problem of non-availability of books was only for the Classes XIII and below. “I have instructed the teachers to arrange previous year’s syllabus books and teach the students until the new books arrive”, she said. The Haryana education department needs to make available textbooks to the students of Class I to XIII in all the government schools in the state free of cost under the RTE Act. The government awarded the contract to publish the books to a Mumbai-based publisher but it failed to provide books to the students even three months after the start of the academic session. Only the Classes I and II books could be supplied in some of the districts, while students are still without books in around eight districts. |

Remove new HPSC member, says INLD
Chandigarh, July 27 Addressing a press conference in the presence of INLD legislators Rampal Majra and Pradeep Chaudhry, Rajender, whose son was allegedly murdered, levelled allegations against the HPSC member. “The charges have been framed in two criminal trials which are at an advanced stage at Palwal. At such a stage, it is inappropriate and illegal to appoint such a criminal on a constitutional post,” Majra said. Chaudhary alleged that the family was being threatened of false implication in criminal cases. “He has been appointed due to his proximity to former minister Karan Singh Dalal, a close relative of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda,” he held. He added that it was an irony that a person facing such serious criminal cases would now be a part of the selection process for judicial magistrates. The HPSC member was not available for comment. Meanwhile, the INLD alleged arbitrary allotment of industrial plots in Panchkula. Majra issued a list of 11 persons alloted industrial plots in Panchkula. Made in July, these allotments came as a “windfall” for the beneficiaries since the difference between reserve price and market price was huge, according to INLD leaders. Majra claimed that plots were allotted to Manjot Kaur, wife of a lawyer at the AG office and daughter-in-law of a sitting judge, Mona Beri, daughter-in-law of an officer in the CM’s office, Nandita Hooda, wife of a senior lawyer in the AG office, and Pardeep Kumar, whose father was in the CM’s staff. “Among beneficiaries is Ganesh Dutt Ratan, the Chief Minister’s friend, Aman Gupta, a former legislator’s son, Renu Hooda, Hooda’s relative, Lt-Col OP Dahiya (retd), relative of a former legislator and now CM’s relative, Dagar Katyal, the relative of a lawyer in the AG office, and Kanwar Kurukshetra University functionary’s family,” Majra alleged. Meanwhile, a Haryana Urban Development Authority spokesperson clarified that industrial plots in Panchkula were advertised in leading newspapers and all applicants were called for interview by the committee headed by the HUDA Chief Administrator. |
