Web portal for SC students launched: The Punjab Government has
launched a web portal to facilitate students belonging to Scheduled
Casts and backward. The portal named “Ashirwad” will help students
apply for scholarships by logging on to website
www.punjabscholarship.gov.in and filling the prescribed form online.
SC/BC Welfare Minister Gulzar Singh Ranike said the students could
apply for scholarship online from July 5.

Residents block road in Malerkotla: A number of local residents belonging to a minority community on Sunday blocked traffic on the Malerkotla-Nabha road, Grewal Chowk and Jarg Chowk in Malerkotla for about three hours. They held the protest after they were stopped by Army officials from constructing a shed near a shrine on land “belonging” to the Defence Ministry. The protesters said they would urge the Chief Minister to take up the matter with the Defence Ministry.

SI attacked in Tarn Taran: Sub-Inspector Gurinderbir Singh, Additional
SHO, Chabal village, was injured when a village resident allegedly shot at him with an air gun. The official along with his team had gone to the house of Bakshish Singh for conducting an inquiry against him on a complaint by his brother. When the police team reached his house, the accused started pelting stones on them and fired with his air gun. Bakshish Singh has been arrested.
