3 robbers held after chase
Had robbed a cop of his car at gunpoint; 3 still at large

Dera Bassi, June 22
The police has arrested three robbers after an encounter near Lalru, here today. The encounter took place when six robbers robbed a Fortuner car at gunpoint from a police employee from a Dhaba near Lalru and tried to flee from the spot.

The police employee, whose car was taken, informed the police of different police stations following which, the police from Lalru, Banur, Dera Bassi and Zirakpur setup check points at different places.

Meanwhile, the robbers were stopped near Charbar village in the fields where the encounter took place. After the encounter, the police arrested three robbers out of six and confiscated arms from their custody.

SSP Mohali, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, SP Dera Bassi, Anil kumar Sharma, SHOs of the nearby police stations and policemen reached the spot. The robbers also robbed a tractor from near the encounter place after leaving the Fortuner behind.

A search operation to trace the remaining robbers was going on. The police has registered a case at the Lalru police station against all accused under Section 395 of the IPC and illegal Arms Act.

The arrested accused included, Manoj kumar, Vijay Singh Thakur, and Abmanyou of Sirsa.

Driver found dead

Kalka, June 22
A 42-year-old bus driver was found dead today on the National Highway in Kalka. According to the police sources, the body was recovered from a path near NH-22, adjacent to the Kalka- Pinjore railway crossing.

The deceased has been identified as Dilbagh, a driver of a private bus. He belonged to Chandigarh. The incident came to limelight when some passers-by noticed the body and informed the police.

The police sent the body to General Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula.

The autopsy of the deceased was conducted in the Community Health Centre (CHC), Kalka, and was handed over to the relatives of the deceased.

2,302 file nominations in Dera Bassi

A total of 2,302 candidates have filed their nomination papers for the election of sarpanchs and panchs in the Dera Bassi block. As per the information, 1,760 candidates filed nominations for the post of panchs and 542 candidates filed nominations for the election of village sarpanchs.

Informing about this, the block election in charge-cum-SDM, Inderjeet Kaur Kang, said these candidates had filed their nominations for the election of 107 village panchyats of the Dera Bassi block.Today was the last date of filing of nominations.

3 held for murder

Mohali, June 22
The police has arrested three persons wanted in connection with a murder of an owner of a grocery shop in Kharar yesterday. The police said today the suspects, who were arrested within hours of the crime, were Babu Ram, who worked as a property dealer in Kharar, and his two sons, Raj Kumar (35), who had a mobile repair shop on the Landran road, Kharar, and Ramesh Kumar (32). The weapon used in the crime was also recovered by the police.

The police had registered a case under Sections 302, 307 and 34 of the IPC and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act on the statement of Vijay Kumar, who was injured in the incident of firing.

SSP, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, said that Vijay told the police that he had a grocery shop on the Kharar-Landran road. The latter said around 6 pm yesterday, his brother, Sanjeev Kumar (35), had brought some items from Mohali to their shop. When he entered the shop, Babu and his sons, who ran a shop opposite their grocery shop, came and allegedly started using abusive language to them.

Vijay alleged that Babu then fired from a revolver at Sanjeev thereafter, the assailants fled from the spot.

Bhullar said the shopkeepers in the area took Sanjeev to the Civil Hospital, Kharar, where he was declared brought dead. Vijay sustained injuries, and after first aid at the hospital, he was referred to a private hospital in Mohali where his condition is said to be stable. Bhullar said while questioning the suspects, it was revealed that Ajay, the elder brother of the deceased, had some money dealings with the accused Babu.

First Chandigarh Golf Association Junior Circuit Tournament concluded at the greens of the Panchkula Golf Course, Panchkula Golf Club. In the category E, Manjot and Jujhar marched with 209 points while in category D students of Carmel Convent School-Anyaa and Mayra won the title with 356 points.

Mohali Cricket Association log win

Chandigarh, June 22
The team of Mohali Cricket Association (MCA) won the first match of the Guru Nanak Public School Cricket Cup for boys (U-12) against Chandigarh Cricket Association (CCA) by 3 wickets today.

Batting first, the CCA team posted 154 runs by losing 8 wickets in allotted 40 overs. Batsman Yuvraj Singh contributed lion’s share with his 59 runs while Harnoor Pannu scored 30 runs. For bowling side, Ashwin and Anshul took 2 wickets each. For MCA, Anshul cored 79 runs off 91 balls. — TNS
