Two unidentified bodies found near Dera Bassi

Two unidentified dead bodies have been found near Dera Bassi. The bodies are of a man and a woman.

The police has shifted both the bodies to the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, for the purpose of identification.

As per information, one body of a man was found from in front of a petrol pump near railway overbridge on Sunday. The deceased was wearing a blue pair of jeans and grey-coloured shirt. There were some injury marks on his face and head.

The deceased seemed to be somewhere around 33-year-old. The cause of the death could not be ascertained so far.

Another body of a woman, that was found from near Bhushan Factory on Monday, seems to be of a 65-year-old woman, who was wearning simple dress.

Both the bodies were kept in the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, for 72 hours for identification.

23-year-old youth electrocuted

A 23-year-old youth of a nearby Daffarpur village was electrocuted here on Monday morning.

Sources said the incident occurred when the victim was trying to repair a cable TV wire near his house.

Suddenly, he came in the grip of electric current due to which he died on the spot. The police said that the victim was identified as a farmer. The police has taken an action under Section 174 of the IPC following the statement of family members. The body of the deceased was handed over to relatives after conducting postmortem examination.

Projects not approved, colonisers see red

While addressing the media persons here today Harpreet Singh, president of Colonisers Association alleged that on the one hand the cabinet has decided to regularise the illegal colonies in the state, whereas on the other, the developers of the TP Schemes are running from pillar to post to get their projects approved since last two to three years in spite of the fact that the respective councils had already passed resolutions to approve their TP Schemes and the developers had deposited worth lakhs of rupees towards licensee fee, EDC charges and CLU charges at the time of submitting their applications.

He said these cases are lying pending at the govt-level for approval. But now again have been sent back to the respective councils on the pretext of getting the CLUs and to deposit irrational CLU charges to the tune of 5 per cent of the collector rates, by issuing a notification on 4.4.2013 in this regard.

He said this notification has pushed them back to the same place from where they started since two to three years before, thereby causing them huge financial losses.

Inspector’s murder: Accused sent to judicial custody

A local court today sent the two accused in the murder of UT police Inspector Sucha Singh to judicial custody. Judicial Magistrate Parvesh Singla sent Basant Kumar, alias Bunty, and his female accomplice Sarita, who have been booked for the murder of the UT police Inspector, to 14-day judicial custody after their four-day police custody ended today.

The duo were sent back to Haryana from where the UT police had brought them on production warrants. They are accused of committing a double murder in Sonepat on April 18 and the murder of Sucha Singh on June 8. They were arrested on Jun 9 by the Haryana police from Delhi.

The police took dismissed UT policeman Basant's specimen signatures in connection with a case of cheating registered against him.

The UT police had registered a case against three policemen for issuing a self-loadiing rifle (SLR) along with 20 cartridges to Basant Singh without verifying his suspended status.

Accused Basant, who was posted with the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB), had come to the Police Lines in Sector 26 and collected the SLR from the artillery along with the cartridges in April. He had murdered his paramour's husband and mother-in-law at Deepalpur village in Sonepat district of Haryana with the same weapon on April 18.

Basant had been suspended in March for remaining absent from duty without giving any valid reason to the Police Department.

Woman accomplice shows no remorse
“I was never forced to do anything and I am equally party to the crime,” said Sarita, a resident of Sonepat and co-accused in the murder case. She is two months pregnant with Basant’s child. While she refused to talk to mediapersons, she showed no remorse and said nothing happened against her wishes.

Man held on charge of bigamy

Acting on a woman’s complaint, the police has registered a bigamy case against a resident of Sector 9. The police has arrested Dhanu Nikhanj, who is a relative of a former Indian cricketer, in the case. He has been remanded in two-day police custody.

The woman has alleged that she got married to the resident in 2006 but he married another woman in 2009.

Young golfers from city aim high

Being among prominent persons is a dream of all and the golfers of the City Beautiful seem to be well aware of how to attain that place. With the passage of time, local (in all categories, juniors or professionals) golfers have successfully registered their fame at every level.

The game, first played in the 15th century in Scotland, has slowly taken its grip over India through the Royal Calcutta Golf Club, the oldest golf club outside the British Isles. Interestingly, at present, the most successful golfer of India is from the City Beautiful only.

Jeev Milkha Singh, a well-known name in the world of golf, who is from Chandigarh and son of Flying Sikh, Milkha Singh, has titles of three European Tour, four Japan Golf Tour and six Asian Tour (order of merit twice).

In an interaction with media, during the launch of a short format golf tournament, at the Golf Ranges near Kishangarh, Jeev mentioned, “I want young children from this city to grow up and achieve fame. They should start from zero; learn the best they can, before dropping themselves for some tough competitions.” Following his footpath, the local golfers have been achieving new heights, in order to keep city’s name on the top and to make their fame. The Tribune team came across a few golfers winning laurels at junior level besides completing their academics on good note.

Karandeep Singh Kochhar

Fourteen-year-old Karandeep Kochhar has been winning laurels since he was 8. Holding a club, he used to accompany his grandfather, to the Chandigarh Golf Club and soon learnt the art to loop a small white-coloured ball with birdies. In his recent achievement, he was selected in the Junior National Squad for Asia Pacific Junior Championship. A student of St John’s School, Sector 26, is holding third rank in the Category B (13 to14 years).

“I received all praises from family that turns out to be a perfect gift everyday. I am still learning the game. I am also aware of the fact that I need to cover a long distance before reaching my final destination and to be known as a professional. The recent selection is one of the prominent steps to polish my career. The IGU’s (Indian Golf Union) camp will surely boost my career. I have a wish to achieve and make my parents, city and everyone proud,” Karandeep.

Feroz Garewal

Fourteen-year-old Feroz Garewal is another emerging player in the world of golf. A student of DAV Public School, Sector 15, has recently participated in the Jakarta World Junior Golf Championship in the Indonesian Open Golf Tourney. Earlier, this month, after being selected in the Junior Nation’s Pack for the Asia Pacific Junior Championship, he won the Haryana Junior Golf Championship played at the Golden Greens Golf and Country Club. He represents Category A (15 to 18 years) and shot scores of 73,73,78,74 for overall second and first in his Category A.

“These two years have been good so far. I have learnt a lot and now the upcoming camp at Delhi under five different coaches will surely become a real experience to share. I am looking forward to playing well, overcoming my shortcomings and trying to play under all hard conditions. To achieve every possible feat with all possible surety is all I need. My family supports me through out and my sister remains present in each tournament to make her photographic experience nurture with clicking some shots of mine with clubs,” mentioned Feroz.

Aadil Bedi

A student of Vivek High School, Chandigarh, is marking his name in the Category-C career. Inspired from the selection in World Junior Golf Master in Las Vegas and World Cup 2013 in Pinehurst, the USA, he is presently working on his skills. In his recent tournaments, he performed with putting as nay as birdies. He is also leading with 199 points out of the five IGU tournaments from a total of eight matches are to be played. Started playing golf at the age of 4, he has been playing the IGU Circuit since he was 6. He secured second rank at age of 9 and became No 1 in the IGU merit at the age of 10. He has already participated in Sydney, Australia, True Vision Junior Golf Tournament in Bankok, Thailand (finished fourth), Callaway World Cup San Diego, California, the USA, European Championship, Scotland in England (finished ninth).

“These recent tournaments remained a good experience for me. I have to participate in the World Junior Golf Master and World Cup USA in the upcoming months and keeping this in mind, I am just trying to fill my kitty with tournament exposure, so to overcome the tough competition at international level,” said Aadil.

Vasundhara Thiara

For 10-year-old Vasundhara, being on the top has always remained her aim and for that she just needs to work under the guidance of proper training. She recently bagged the No. 1 spot in the IGU North Zone Tournament in Delhi last month, first position in the IGU North Zone tournament Jaipur, third in the US Kids Golf European Championship in Scotland, first position in the Tata Steel IGU North Zone Haryana Sub-Junior and Feeder Tour, first position in the third US Kids World Championship Qualifier, first position in the Tata Steel IGU North Zone Chandigarh Sub-Junior and & Feeder Tour, first position in the second US Kids World Championship Qualifier, first in Chandigarh State Championship, first position in the 50th Albatross Junior Golf Tournament.

She is also aiming to win more from her upcoming international tourneys. “I am aiming to attain high from all international tourneys. Besides gaining trophies, I am attaining experience with playing all these tourneys that is essential to bad laurels in professional sectors,” said Vasundhara.

Virain Khosla

Virain Khosla, a group B player has recently won the KEPTA Golf Championship. In the US Golf Kids of Boys (U-13), he bagged three championships while finished runners-up at two events held across Delhi and Gurgaon.

“I am happy with my recent feat and trying to improve well under the guidance of proper coaching. I wanted to play more and more tournaments to fill my bag full of achievements. Running everything parallel is a difficult task to perform. But I am trying to overcome all the hurdles in my aim. To play in international competition and defeat tough competitors is what I am looking to forward to complete my this year’s golfing career,” said Virain.

Pranav beats Gautam in tennis meet

Pranav Chopra trounced Gautam Mittal in a tough-settled match that ended after a grappling period of over an hour during the Swami Ram Tirath Total Tennis Championship, held at Phase IV here today.

In the match of boys (U-12) category, Pranav beat Gautam at 6-4. Sehajpreet, Akshit Chabbra and Udayveer also registered victories against their respective opponents.

Cricket trials on June 20

The Chandigarh Cricket Association (affiliated to Haryana Cricket Association) will organise the Tri-city Premier League Cricket tournament for boys (Under-16 year), here.

According to the organisers, the tournament will be played with white ball in coloured dress under 50-50 overs format. The trials for selecting teams, for participating in the tournament, will be held on June 20 (Thursday) (3.30 pm) at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 19.

The players born on or after September 1, 1997 will be eligible to participate in this tournament. Surinder Singh Baijee, honorary secretary of the Chandigarh Cricket Association, said the players should belong to Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula to participate in this tournament. Paavan wins three medals in table tennis

Table Tennis player Paavan, a student of DAV Public School, Sector 8, won two gold (sub-junior girls and junior girls) and one bronze (women) medals during the Open Table Tennis Tournament held at Hindu Putri Pathshala, Khanna (Punjab).

The tournament was organised by the Sports Welfare Club, Khanna, and more than 150 players participated in the sub-junior boys and girls, junior boys and girls events. The matches were also organised under youth boys and girls, men and women categories.

Arshita of DAV Public School, Sector 8, remained the other noticeable performer of the championship. She bagged runners up position in the championship.

Local veteran players AK Mittal and Manmohan Sharma finished runners-up in the All-India Police Badminton Championship organised in Imphal, Manipur.

Mittal defeated players from Andhra Pradesh, Mizoram and Manipur in veteran singles category to finished second in the tourney while Manmohan routed players of Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland in the 45+ singles category to finish runners-up in the competition.

The team of Nagaland followed by Manipur finished overall winners and runners-up, respectively.

In the matches of Chandigarh Football League organised by the Baichung Bhutia Club, on Sunday, the team of Leaders-7 Warriors maintained its top spot in the points table with a comprehensive win against the Gunners by 5-1.

Striker, Gagandeep, scored a hat-trick while Robin added two goals to complete the winning tally. In another match, the team of Spartans XI defeated CR7 by 2-0 with Gagan and Manish scoring a brace each. The Dynamic Devils registered their first win defeating the Oasis XI by a goal against nil. Man of the match, Dwarka, scored the decider for Dynamic Devils from a corner kick. In the matches of boys (U-14) group, the Avengers defeated 7-Strikers at 3-0 with Akshunya scoring two goals while Dhanraj scoring the final goal. Second on points table, the team of Yellow Rangers registered a 2-1 win over Victory Strikers. Goldy put the team ahead and after the lemon break Rahul doubled the lead.
