Rs 93 lakh being spent on desilting drains in Fatehgarh Sahib
Fatehgarh Sahib, June 12 Additional Deputy Commissioner MS Jaggi said all the necessary steps, precautions and arrangements had been made at the administrative level. He directed the executive engineers, drainage and panchyati raj, and all the EOs to initiate the drive to clean all canals, tunnels, bridges, ponds, drains, distributaries and siphons before June 30, so that water flow did not get obstructed. He directed the drainage department to remove all the encroachments from near Sirhind Choe and other drains. He directed the department to arrange sand bags to check the breach in any drain. He said by June 30, all flood control rooms must start working at the district and sub-division levels. He said these would be under the direct control of Deputy Commissioner and respective tehsildars, and would work round-the-clock. He directed all the revenue officers to submit a report about the prospective flood prone areas within a week. He directed the Civil Surgeon to ensure pure drinking water supply, fresh eatables, cleanliness, vaccination facilities and medicines in case of floods. He also directed him to start a vaccination campaign during the monsoon. Deputy director, animal husbandry, was also directed to take suitable measures. DEO(S) and DEO(E) were directed to ensure safety of school buildings and directed them to identify unsafe buildings. He said in case of floods, boats, tents, life-saving jackets and other equipment should be arranged in sufficient numbers. He also directed them to stock required food, medicines, and fodder for animals. Jaggi directed executive engineer, PSEB, to ensure uninterrupted power supply. He directed the officials and employees not to leave the station without taking prior permission from the Deputy Commissioner. |

Seven hurt in road accident
Dera Bassi, June 12 The injured have been identified as Anoop Kumar, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, Maan Singh of also from Uttar Pradesh, driver of the auto Malkeet Singh, Ramesh Chand, Pawan kumar, Jaswinder Singh and Pushpinder. 15 cars recovered, 7 arrested
Mohali, June 12 The accused have been identified as Jagseer Singh, alias Seera (27), a resident of Sekhan village, Baghapurana, Moga, Maghar Singh (42), a resident of Moga, Pawan Kumar, alias Pannu (27), a resident of Faridkot, Satish Kumar, alias Romi (24), a resident of Muktsar, Rajbir Singh, alias Gursewak Singh, alias Bachchi (19), Faridkot, Sukhbir Singh, alias Sukhi, a resident of Ludhiana, and Amritpal Singh, alias Goldy, a resident of Sarawa village, Kotkapura. The stolen vehicles included six Tata Safaris, two Scorpios, four Indigo cars, a Verna, an Innova and an Indica car. The accused, Maghar Singh, Romi and Goldy were operating from behind the bars. It is learnt that the remaining accused have jumped parole. Three accused Gurbinder Singh, alias Lucky, from Moga, Jagdeep Singh, alias Jaggi, from Chhajawaali village, Ferozepur, and Sukhchain Singh, alias Sukha, are still at large. Mohali SSP GS Bhullar said the police arrested kingpin of the gang Seera following a tip-off. Bhullar said Seera was a bus driver. He started stealing vehicles after coming in contact with his accomplice Pannu's father Surjit Singh. He said the gang used to dismantle the stolen vehicles in Uttar Pradesh. There are 36 cases of vehicle theft and burglary registered against Goldy while Maghar Singh has been booked under the NDPS Act and has four cases of vehicle theft registered against him. Pannu, who has theft cases registered against him at Mohali, Jalandhar and Ludhiana, is a proclaimed offender. He was lodged in Sangrur and Bathinda jails. Romi is also a proclaimed offender. Bachci is wanted in several cases. SSP Bhullar said the remaining accused would be nabbed soon. “We are hopeful of recovering 40 more vehicles from the accused," the SSP said. A case under Sections 379, 411, 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120B has been registered against the accused at the Mataur police station. |

Auto-rickshaw driver arrested for stealing two-wheelers in city
Chandigarh, June 12 The accused identified as Rakesh Kumar (35), alias Rinka, a resident of Sector 22 (C), was arrested by the police on the bridge near Daddu Majra while riding a stolen motorcycle. “The motorcycle was stolen from Sector 22
market on June 6”, the police stated. Police officials said that the accused used to steal the motorcycles for joyrides and abandon them after the fuel tank got empty. “The accused used to steal the two-wheelers, ride them and later abandon them in the parking lot of the local market”?, officials added. The disclosure made by the accused led to the recovery of total 10 two-wheelers that were left abandoned in various parking lots. With the arrest of the accused, the Chandigarh Police claims to have solved five vehicle theft cases registered at different police stations in the city. “We are inquiring from where the remaining vehicles were stolen”, the police stated. The police officials stated that the accused had a criminal background as already five cases had been registered against him at the Sector 17 police station for theft in the past few years. A fresh case has been registered against the accused and an inquiry has been initiated. |

Patiala-based contractor goes missing
Mohali, June 12 Bansal wrote that the officials, Tikam Singh, planning manager, Vimal Chowdhary, project manager, and Ashish Sharma, assistant planning manager, were harassing him. He stated that the company had failed to pay an amount of Rs 50 lakh to him. A case under Section 306 of the IPC has been registered against the trio on the complaint of Bansal's uncle Hari Chand. “We have rounded up two officials. Bansal is still missing and we are trying to trace him," said the SHO. He said Bansal had switched off his mobile phone. |

Faridabad rout Chandigarh in cricket meet
Chandigarh, June 12 After winning the toss, the Faridabad team amassed 262 runs for the loss of four wickets in their allotted 25 overs. Robin initiated the team’s scoring chart with his contribution of 70 runs from just 34 balls, studded with four boundaries and five sixes. He was equally supported by Abhishek, who scored 71 runs of just 30 balls, including two boundaries and eight sixes. Ankit for his unbeaten knock of 60 runs off 41 balls, remained the other noticeable batsman for the team. His innings was studded with four boundaries and five sixes. For the bowling side, Rahul claimed two wickets for 47, while Parvesh Sharma took one wicket for 68. In reply, the team of Chandigarh Cricket Association was bundled out for mere 121 runs in 21.1 overs. For them, Aakash was the only batsman with some respectable score. Chandigarh, June 12 Amandeep Saggu led the team's score chart with his breezy knock of 41 off 47 balls, studded with seven fours. Later, Birender Singh chipped in with 38 runs off just 13 deliveries, including four boundaries and two sixes. Harjinder remained the other main contributor with a useful knock of 29 runs from 31. For the bowling side, Manoj and Deepak grabbed two-wickets each. In reply, Competent Synergies could manage to score only 122-runs for five wicktes in 20 overs. Tinu contributed 37 runs off 35 balls, including five fours and a six. He was equally supported by Tanu, who scored 21 off 28. For the HDFC Bank team, Gaurav, Bharat and Amandeep took one-wicket each. In another match, the team of Chandigarh Police defeated Placement Guru by eight wickets.
