Missing girl, man found dead
New Delhi, May 5 The police suspect that the two persons committed suicide by jumping into the river. The victims themselves had tied each other's hands. However, investigators have not ruled out foul play in their deaths. They are awaiting the postmortem reports of the victims to ascertain the cause of their deaths. The incident came to light when a fisherman found the two bodies. He informed the police who took the bodies to AIIMS. The local police began their investigations and started examining the missing-person complaints to discover the identity of the deceased. On Sunday morning, the two were identified as residents of Inderpuri in southwest Delhi. Their families identified their bodies. The girl lived with her mother and two younger sisters in rented accommodation. Her father had passed away some years ago. The youth was unemployed and his father works in a garment factory. The girl's family claimed that she had been missing since April 28. She had purportedly left a suicide note in her house. It reads, "My brother is going to die, I am also dying." The police questioned the girl's family and learnt that she addressed the youth as her brother. He lived in her neighbourhood. "Her family suspected their relationship and the girl's mother often beat her up due to this," said a police officer. According to the police, the families of the victims were against the relationship. |

New Delhi, May 5 The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has finally thrown them open to the public. There has been no activity in the 21-acre sports complex after the conclusion of the CWG Games in 2010 due to bureaucratic hurdles. After going through a lot of audit panels since then, the village has been opened on a 'pay and play' basis. "It is unbelievable that these stadiums once used by international athletes are open to a common man. The feeling is awesome," said Sudhanshu Roy, who is among several others who come to the village. The complex has wrestling and weightlifting venues, space for practising jumps and throws, a 400 m synthetic athletic track, a swimming pool and a state-of-the-art fitness centre. The authorities are also conducting a survey to put in place a children's park and a skating rink. "We are trying to push things. The audit is still being done, thus creating restrictions. We are trying to segregate things and have commissioned the maximum area," said Col (Retd) Sahnotra, the Manager at the village. The sports facilities at the complex are at par with those of the international stadiums. "The swimming pool here would be the best in the country. There are filtration and ozone plants along with a water-heating plant in the pool. A huge gymnasium where more than 50 people can work out is the best that people can get in Delhi," he said. Though the charges ranging between Rs 200 and Rs 250 for one hour are a little expensive. "If I have to bring my son here daily, it would not be affordable. There should be some discount for children. After all, the charges should be such as to ensure optimum usage of the facility," said a visitor. However, the Village officials feel that the fee is reasonable and necessary to bear the cost of maintenance of the high quality infrastructure. |
