Wine contractors in city an unhappy lot
Ludhiana, April 3
Wine contractors in the city are an unhappy lot as the state government is not renewing the “L-1” licences in the city because they want to favour a 'select few'. It is learnt that of the 18 to 20 “L-1” licences in the city, the state government has only renewed five and that also of those who enjoy political patronage. This means that the wine contractors have no other option but to purchase liquor from these particular five “L-1” licence holders only.

Pakistani delegation seeks better coordination with local civic body

Lahore Waste Management Company has sought better coordination with the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation to allow both the cities to work together for providing better civic amenities to respective residents. A three-member delegation from Pakistan today visited Punjab Agricultural University and Bio-Methanisation Processing Plant on Hambran Road, besides seeing the working of door-to-door lifting of garbage at Kitchlu Nagar.

Industry welcomes 24x7 customs clearance of perishable farm goods

The industry has welcomed the move of the Union Finance Ministry of granting round-the-clock clearance for perishable agricultural export goods. Badish Jindal, president, Federation of Association of Small Industries of India (FASII), said the move will benefit all the exporters of agricultural goods, goods of horticulture and other perishable items.

International students' festival kicks off
Students participate in the International Students Fest of the PCTE Group of Institutes in Ludhiana. Ludhiana, April 3
A ten-day International Students' Fest was held at PCTE Group of Institutes. Singing, dancing, three fashion shows, drum playing, short presentations, documentaries were part of the event. In the festival, foreign and Indian students played games like football, volleyball, basketball and pool. Foreign students showed their talent in the fashion show, dramatics, music and dance. A documentary of their respective countries showing their culture and rich heritage was also shown on the occasion.

Health workshop
The District Health Department organised a district-level workshop on the importance of reporting the Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) cases. The Civil Surgeon, while addressing the nodal officers of the AFP reporting units, said the country was close to putting an end to polio, and therefore there was a need to give importance to reporting of these cases. He said routine immunisation was important to completely obliterate polio from the country.
