cash-at-judge's door Tribune News Service
Chandigarh, March 21 The case came up for hearing before the special CBI judge, Vimal Kumar. During the previous hearing of the case, the special counsel of the CBI, Anupam Gupta, had moved an application in the court against co-accused Advocate Sanjiv Bansal. Sanjiv Bansal had earlier given a statement to the police that the packet carrying money (Rs 15 lakh) was to be given to a person, named Nirmal Singh, and he did not know about any Nirmal Yadav. Bansal's munshi had carried the packet, he had stated. Gupta pointed out that this application was not attached in the charge sheet. Bansal had given a one-page statement to the police regarding the delivery of the money to one Nirmal Singh, who, when contacted and identified, had denied knowing any Sanjiv Bansal. Bansal, meanwhile, in February third week (ahead of the previous hearing of the case on February 22) had filed an application under Section 227 of the CrPC, stating that since the charge sheet in its entirety does not make out any case for his prosecution, he should be discharged in the case. The case came to the fore in 2008, when a bag containing Rs 15 lakh was delivered at the residence of Justice Nirmal Kaur, another Punjab and High Court Judge. |
