Fire breaks out in HPCL plant
: A fire broke out in the LPG bottling plant of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) near Phulokhari village on Tuesday evening. The police said the fire erupted at 4.15 pm due to some technical fault. It also led to a blast in an oil tanker. Fire tenders from Guru Gobind Singh Refinery were pressed into service. No loss of life or injury to anyone was reported.

Youth held for raping minor
: The Sadar police on Tuesday arrested a youth of Chuge village for allegedly kidnapping and raping a minor girl. Bahadur Singh, Superintendent of Police (SP), Faridkot, said the girl had been sent to Nari Niketan, Jalandhar, after a medical examination. The accused had been remanded to judicial custody, he added.

Sports meet
: A two-day inter-class sports meet was held at the Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan campus. Events such as three-legged race, sack race, potato and spoon races, slow cycling and skipping were held.Track and field events such as 100m sprint, 200m sprint, 400m race, 4X100 and 4X400 relay, shot put, discus throw and javelin throw were held on the concluding day. Sukhjeet Kaur (PGDMC) won the title of the best athlete while Veerpal Kaur (BA III) was adjudged the second best athlete. Principal of the college Manjit K Ghuman congratulated the winners.

Woman killed in mishap near Moonak
: In a collision between a jeep and a tractor-trailer on the Moonak-Tohana road on Tuesday, a woman occupant of the jeep was killed while others sustained injuries. Jeep’s driver Mangat Ram and a three-month-old child were among the injured. They have been admitted to a hospital in Tohana. The deceased was identified as Jaspreet Kaur (25) of Bahadurpur (Bareta) in Mansa district. 

Man arrested with 3 kg of opium: A police team on Monday arrested Jagdeep Singh alias Kala of Sular village (near Dirba) and seized 3 kg of opium from his possession. A case was registered against Jagdeep under Sections 18/61/85 of the NDPS Act. He was produced in a court at Sunam on Tuesday that remanded him in police custody for two days.

CHAMBA
4 kg charas seized, four arrested
: The police seized 4.150 kg charas in four separate locations of the district during the past 24 hours. Revealing this here on Tuesday, DSP Kulbhushan Verma said four persons had been arrested and cases registered at Chamba and Dalhousie police stations under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act. He said the accused had been identified as Munnawar, Mohammed, Manoj and Tek Singh.

Man killed in Bilaspur road accident
: Amit Kumar (28) of upper Dholera here was killed on the spot when his bike (HP-69A-1129) coming from the Ghumarwin side struck against a cement bulker (HP-69-906) near Benla village on National Highway No.103 (Shimla-Kangra) Tuesday evening. Reports said the police carried the body to the Regional Hospital here for postmortem after registering a case under Sections 279, 337 and 304-A, IPC. The driver of the bulker was arrested and the bulker taken into custody. 

Jewellery, cash stolen from four houses: Thieves committed theft at four houses of two adjoining villages of Markand-Makdi and Kathpur near here and carried away jewellery worth lakhs and currency notes worth Rs 1.25 lakh on Thursday night. Reports said thieves stole Rs 25,000 and jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh from Amar Nath’s house and jewellery worth Rs 7 lakh and Rs 80,000 cash from Rattan Lal’s house. Vohra Ram was said to have lost Rs 25,000 cash and a gold chain, while Hans Raj lost an old wooden box. Cases have been registered.

CITU to participate in all-India strike
: The state committee of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has decided to participate in a two-day all-India strike in the state on Wednesday and Thursday on a call of the unions to highlight various demands related to workers. Kashmir Singh Thakur, state general secretary, CITU, said about 50,000 workers affiliated with CITU and working in hydro power projects and at anganwadi, hotel and industrial centres would participate in this strike. 

NURPUR
Man hangs himself from tree
: Nand Lal (38), alias Makhan, of nearby Harnora Ghat reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree near his house on Sunday night. The police said the victim was in depression. The police after postmortem examination handed over the body to the family today and reported the case under Section 174 of the CrPC.
