Fire breaks out in HPCL plant: A fire broke out in the LPG bottling plant of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) near Phulokhari village on Tuesday evening. The police said the fire erupted at 4.15 pm due to some technical fault. It also led to a blast in an oil tanker. Fire tenders from Guru Gobind Singh Refinery were pressed into service. No loss of life or injury to anyone was reported.

Youth held for raping minor: The Sadar police on Tuesday arrested a youth of Chuge village for allegedly kidnapping and raping a minor girl. Bahadur Singh, Superintendent of Police (SP), Faridkot, said the girl had been sent to Nari Niketan, Jalandhar, after a medical examination. The accused had been remanded to judicial custody, he added.

Sports meet: A two-day inter-class sports meet was held at the Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan campus. Events such as three-legged race, sack race, potato and spoon races, slow cycling and skipping were held.Track and field events such as 100m sprint, 200m sprint, 400m race, 4X100 and 4X400 relay, shot put, discus throw and javelin throw were held on the concluding day. Woman killed in mishap near Moonak: In a collision between a jeep and a tractor-trailer on the Moonak-Tohana road on Tuesday, a woman occupant of the jeep was killed while others sustained injuries. Jeep’s driver Mangat Ram and a three-month-old child were among the injured. They have been admitted to a hospital in Tohana. The deceased was identified as Jaspreet Kaur (25) of Bahadurpur (Bareta) in Mansa district.
Man arrested with 3 kg of opium: A police team on Monday arrested Jagdeep Singh alias Kala of Sular village (near Dirba) and seized 3 kg of opium from his possession. A case was registered against Jagdeep under Sections 18/61/85 of the NDPS Act. He was produced in a court at Sunam on Tuesday that remanded him in police custody for two days.
