Accused show no remorse
Ludhiana, February 19
The purpose was to kill the trio, dump them and run away with cash. In police custody, Laddi and Raman, the two assailants who were nabbed by the city police for brutally attacking Veena, her daughter Deepika and their servant Chotu at a house in Shivaji Nagar, showed no remorse for what they had done. While being produced before the court, Raman said: "We could not succeed in what we had planned."

Govt dept defaults on rent, user charges

Renting out a portion of its building in Feroze Gandhi Market to a state government department has become a thorn in the flesh of the Ludhiana Improvement Trust, which is now finding it difficult to recover not only the arrears of rent, but the user charges for electricity, water supply and sewerage, which have mounted to Rs 31 lakh now.

Industry flouting quota policy 
Ludhiana, February 19
"Policy of Reservation" formed under the Industries (Development and Regulation) Act 1951 was formed to increase production of consumer goods in the micro and small enterprises (MSE) sector and expand employment opportunities. But today, the policy is being flouted openly throughout Punjab.

Kabaddi player caught stealing vehicle

The CIA- Zone-I team has nabbed a former Kabddi player in a car theft case. The accused identified as Gurjit Singh, a resident of Dumchari village in Ropar District was caught by the police at a checkpoint near PNB Sikandari Road here last evening.

Man gets life term for raping minor sister

Additional Sessions Judge Mandeep Pannu has convicted Ramesh Kumar of Sultanpur, UP district, on charges of raping his 14-year-old minor sister.
