Over 300 senior citizens celebrate annual day
Kalka, February 17 The senior citizens including Jai Gopal Kohli, president, DK Jain, Pritam Anand, vice-presidents and many others laid emphasised on various problems faced by them these days like proposed installation of electricity meters, over charging of gas cylinder volunteer on every cylinder. The also irked over the deteriorating condition of railway link roads. While addressing, Satinder Rana, given assurance to senior citizens about the immediate solutions of the above said problems. He also said that he would put forth the problems before the Central Railway Minister, Pawan Kumar Bansal. He further said, to facilitate the inhabitants of Kalka, Pinjore, it would be urged to CM, Haryana, that Kalka, Pinjore and its adjoining area should be declared a hilly area, on the tune of Baddi and Parwanoo, as the youths were facing the unemployment problem. — OC |

SGGS World varsity to set up Sikh portrait gallery
Fatehgarh Sahib, Feb 17 He said that the gallery at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University will also have the portraits of various important events in the lives of Sikh Gurus and their families and the sacrifices made by the Sikh martyrs and at later stage, the portraits of the prominent Sikh scholars, businessmen, sportsmen, scientists, saints, economists and achievers in different walks of life will be included. Prof Kirpal Singh Badungar, Dr Gurmohan Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Dr Balwant Singh Dhillon, Dr Harpal Singh Pannu, Dr Sarbjinder Singh, Dr Parmvir Singh, Prof Achhru Singh, Roop Singh and Dharminder Singh Ubha, Director Education, SGPC. The parents, prominent citizens and the staff from other educational institutions in large number attended the function. Dr DS Sidhu, principal of the college read the annual report and highlighted the achievements of the college in the field of education, sports, and cultural activities. Property dealer dupes man of Rs 15 lakh
Mohali, February 17 The police said the accused, along with a female accomplice, who he introduced as the owner of the plot, had duped Khurana. Khurana alleged that he had paid Rs 13 lakh as advance, and later paid more money. Harminder’s father Davinder Singh has also given an affidavit to the victim that stated he knew the fake owner, said the police. Case has been registered against Harminder Singh, Davinder Singh and the unidentified woman. Harminder Singh was sent to a one-day remand. The other two accused are absconding. |

Attendant manhandles doctor
Chandigarh, February 17 The patient’s attendant entered into a heated argument with the doctor forcing him to attend to his patient (suffering from psychiatric problem) immediately. When the doctor asked him to wait, the attendant hit the doctor. According to an eyewitness inside the emergency, the drama led to disturbance inside the Emergency Unit and the security staff had to be roped in to control the situation. — TNS |

Sonu, Stephen win 5km ambuja chandigarh marathon
Chandigarh, February 17
With the message to ‘Run for City’s Pride’, a total of 127 athletes participated in the event. The marathon was divided into two parts one for general public (5km) dream run and other half-marathon of 21 kms for professional runners. The event was flagged off by Inspector General of Police, RP Upadhyay, from Rock Garden. Winners: In the age-category of below 35 years, Sonu Ladva form Kurukshetra stood first with a timing of 1.05.05. He is pursuing his Bachelors in Physical Education from Kurukshetra University. Baljinder and madam Mohan from local Army battalion secured the second and third place with the timing of 1.16.15 and 1.19.20, respectively. The winner of the category was awarded with a cash prize of 1 lakh while the other two position holders were awarded with a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and Rs 20,000, respectively.
“This is my maiden professional title and I am very happy with bagging this. Being a student of physical education remain fit is my priority. These kinds of races or rallies will boast athletics in the nation. On and often, these kind of events provided us the platform to showcase our talent,” said Ladva. In the veteran category of above 35 years, South-Africa citizen, Stephen, secured the top place. Stephen is residing in the City Beautiful since long and is working as software professional. He bagged the cash prize of Rs 50,000. “I practice regularly here at the Sukhna Lake. It was another practice day for me but it feels good that being under this age, I can still defeat my rivals. It was a good show and hopefully I will be participating in more events, in near future,” said Steven. JB Singh secured second place while Kamaldeep Singh in jersey No. 022 attained the third spot, in the category. Sunita Malik won the women’s veteran category that was announced looking into the enthusiasm of women participants in the half marathon. “We usually perform our running sessions at the Sukhna Lake. This was the same another way to check whether I can still run or not. Although, this event has only three winners but hats off to all my fellow participants, who participated in the event. Hopefully, the city will witness, more events like this,” said Sunita. Sunita Sharma, stood second in the event. Raghu and Rannvijay enthral the audience Both Raghu and Rannvijay of MTX Rodies fame also marked their presence during the Marathon from Rock Garden here today. Two ex-roadies, Suchit and Mohit, who are participating in the Roadies X season, were also present on the occasion. Many youngsters were seen enjoying their favorite star’s presence, at the marathon venue. “We just came to participate in the fun run and watch them. Their show is a good entertainer and we just wanted to see them in real,” said a group of girls, while clicking their photographs. |
