Long queues add to woes of railway passengers in Fazilka
Fazilka, February 3 According to official sources, the computerized reservation centre, inaugurated by the then Railway Minister Nitish Kumar on February 1, 2004, has not yet been connected with the solar power generation system despite the fact that solar power is reportedly not being consumed to its optimum by the different wings at the railway station. When power supply is disrupted, work at the computerization centre also gets affected because the UPS installed there also reportedly does not work properly. The employees have to connect the system with the Delhi office for re-establishing the link. "We have to wait in a queue for a long time to book the tickets when the electricity supply is disrupted," said Rattan Lal, a trader, who frequently visits Delhi. A large number Army and Border Security Force (BSF) personnel also get the berths reserved at the centre. Moreover, the reservation centre is open only for a few hours during the day, from 8 am to 2 pm, six days a week. It is kept closed on Sunday. Just one clerk has been deployed at the centre. Passengers have demanded that the reservation centre be opened for a longer duration and even on Sundays. Similarly, there is only one booking clerk at the unreserved booking window against the four posts. Because of the shortage of staff, long queues can be seen when the trains depart. The situation deteriorates when two trains simultaneously depart. It may be mentioned that nearly a dozen trains depart from Fazilka daily. "Due to the huge rush and long queues, when the train moves from the platform, most of the passengers waiting to buy the ticket, rush to board the train in a hurry without even getting the ticket," said a passenger, Happy of village Jamalke, who visits Fazilka town daily from Abohar. Station superintendent, Fazilka, Ashok Setia, when contacted, said the matter has been brought to the notice of the senior divisional electrical engineer. The senior officials have been informed about the problems faced by the passengers, he said. |

Three booked for trying to molest girl
Abohar, February 3 The girl was admitted to the Nehru Memorial Civil Hospital. The police had registered a case under Sections 365,354,341,232 and 34 of the IPC only when the leader of the opposition in Vidhan Sabha Sunil Jakhar spoke to the senior superintendent of police Amar Singh Chahal. Hundreds of citizens had marched to the main city police station, demanding the arrest of the accused. A resident of Idgah Basti had complained that his daughter studying in a private senior secondary school was accosted by some boys of Dayal Nagari as she was passing close to the storage godown located on the Killianwali road. They tried to molest her and beat her up as she resisted the attempt and cried for help. Councillors Ganpat Ram and Ramesh Dhaulpuria were among those who rushed to her aid but the miscreants fled. The protesters told the officials that miscreants had been harassing the girls on the old Fazilka road as well as Killianwali road. A similar situation prevailed near the other schools for girls, they informed. In another instance, the police has found the body of Parvati Shakya in the tail-end of a canal near village Gumjal located near the inter-state border. Her husband Sonu of Kamboj Mohalla had reported that she went missing on Friday. Her footwear and dupatta was found near the canal on Hanumangarh road later. The police has detained Sonu. |
