Notices to SCF owners in Sarabha Nagar market

The MC has issued notices to the owners of shops in the Sarabha Nagar main market for the violation of the building bylaws.
At the Sarabha Nagar main market, which is commonly known as ‘Kipps Market’, a majority of the shop-cum-flats
have slowly turned into shop-cum-offices, which is against the rules.

The Enforcement Directorate raided one of the prominent jewellery shops in Sarafa Bazar in the city today. Sources said the owner of the jewellery shop is said to be involved in a hawala racket.
Teachers’ arrears
Notification released, not budget

The “high-expectations” of college and university teachers, who were to receive the long-pending first installment of arrears by the state government on January 31, 2013, came to the grounds once again as the Finance Department, Chandigarh, did not release the budget to the colleges till date.

Home guards jawan, cop’s kin ‘rob’ migrants

Three migrants from Bihar were stripped, tortured and robbed off their meagre savings allegedly by Punjab Home guard personnel, a policeman’s nephew and his accomplice at the Government Railway police chowki in Sahnewal here today.
Gurnam Singh, SHO GRP police station has confirmed that he has received a complaint and started the investigation. However, no case has been registered so far.
Congress councillors' protest enters Day 5

On the fifth day of the protest, the Congress councillors found an innovative way wherein they administered medicine to the effigies of Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria and MC Commissioner Rakesh Kumar
Verma. "Kajal" was applied to the "eyes" and medicine drops were poured in ears of the Mayor's and the MC Commissioner's effigies. The Congress councillors claimed that after the "medical treatment" both the effigies have been kept in an Intensive Care Unit.
Sterilising stray dogs not easy task for MC

The Finance and Contract Committee of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation yesterday passed a proposal for the sterilisation of stray dogs. As many as 25,000 stray dogs will be sterlised and the project will cost Rs 2 crore.
E-filing of quarterly returns starts; traders face difficulties

The e-filing of the quarterly returns started today. There was disappointment among the traders as the server was working slowly and it was taking a lot of time to upload the returns.
The work for the filing of the quarterly VAT return was delayed by nearly a month as the department was busy preparing new VAT forms with few modifications.
Abandoned girl child handed over to orphanage

A few days old girl child, who was reportedly abandoned by some unidentified persons at
'Panghura' set up at Red Cross Bhawan, Amritsar, some days ago, was handed over to the authorities of an orphanage being run by Swami Ganga Nand Bhuri Wale International Foundation at Talwandi Dham village near Jagraon today by the officials of Red Cross Bhawan Amritsar.

Three arrested for murder
Khamano, February 1
The Khamano police has claimed to solve a case of murder of an aged woman of Khamano and has arrested three persons in this regard.
Stating about the case in a press conference, SSP Hardial Singh Mann said that a woman, Amarjit Kaur, was found murdered on the night of January 19-20 and a Nokia mobile phone, gas cylinder and a pair of gold ornaments were found to be stolen from her place. SSP said a special team was formed under SHO Gurmeet Singh.

Drug peddlers arrested
Ludhiana, February 1
The focal point police has arrested a drug peddler couple and recovered 3 kg of opium from their possession. The accused has been identified as Mahinder Singh and Daljit Kaur. They were nabbed from a police Naka near Sharu Steel in Focal Point area here today. Focal Point police station SHO, Gurtej Singh, said on seeing the policemen, the couple, who were travelling on a scooter, stopped their vehicle and tired to escape. They were intercepted and the police recovered 3 kg opium and arrested the couple.
Thieves decamp with Rs 3.5 lakh
Jagraon, February 1
Some unidentified thieves struck at two separate places during the past 24 hours and stole Rs 3.50 lakh and a Maruti car from different places.
As per the information, the first theft took place at Hans Kalan village situated on Jagaon-Raikot Road past late night from where some unidentified thieves broke into the office of Corporative Society village.
Couple booked for kidnapping daughter

The Salem Tabri police has booked a couple for abducting their daughter from her husband's house in New Shivpuri area.
According to the information, Latesh Jain of Shivpuri area had an affair with Neha, a resident of Jawahar Nagar camp. They got married one and a half year ago.
Power employee booked for bungling
Ludhiana, February 1
The Power Corporation employee was booked for a fraud of Rs 4 lakh. The accused has been identified as Amit Kumar. He was working as a cashier in the Sarabha Nagar office of the Power Corporation from May 2006 to April 2012. He was booked following a probe conducted by the department.
