2 hurt in firing over piece of land

Civic body puts LSE on notice
Ludhiana, January 31
The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has issued a notice to the Ludhiana Stock Exchange (LSE) for violation of building bylaws in the basement. In its notice, the building branch of the MC has stated that an AC plant, a transformer and other such electrical equipments have been installed in the basement of the LSE, which is illegal.

School Principal booked on charge of raping teacher
Ludhiana, January 31
A 70-year-old school Principal has been booked on a charge of raping a 35-year-old teacher. The Shimlapuri police today booked Gurbachan Singh (70) following a complaint lodged by the victim. The woman, who is a divorcee and has two children, started working in a school in 2007. Gurbachan Singh's wife had died long ago. Soon, proximity between the two increased.

Missing man found dead
Ludhiana, January 31
The body of a 30-year-old man, who was missing since January 26, was found from the Sirhind canal in Sudhar here today. The police has recovered the body and sent it to the Civil Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Man gets jail in cheque bounce case
Ludhiana, January 31
Judicial Magistrate Ekta Sahota has convicted Kuldeep Singh of M/s Gaurav Overseas, Industrial Area-A, Ludhiana, in a cheque bounce case of Rs 3 lakh. He was sentenced to undergo imprisonment for one year. He was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 1,000.

Thieves strike at house

Thieves stuck at a house in Thrike village and decamped with cash, gold ornaments and home appliances worth over Rs 2 lakh.

Music should be made compulsory in schools, says violin exponent
Ludhiana, January 31
Violinist Kala Ramnath performs at DAV School in Ludhiana on Thursday. Her violin indeed seemed to be singing, as her way of playing the violin has come to be known as "singing violin". Kala Ramnath, renowned violinist, emulated all nuances of vocal singing through her violin, as she performed during a programme organised by the Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture amongst Youth (SPICMACAY) at DAV Public School here today.

Varsity inks pact with NDRI

Direct cash transfer begins from April 1

Jagga wins bullock cart race
Kila Raipur, January 31
A participant loses control over a bullock cart in a competition during the 77th Kila Raipur sports festival at Kila Raipur village on Thursday. The bullock cart race, which was banned last year, has been resumed this year and the authorities are expecting that it will draw a huge crowd. Jagga of Assi Kalan won the first prize in a bullock cart race organised on the first day of the 77th chapter of Kila Raipur Rural Sports, popularly known as mini-Olympics, by clocking a time of 19.50 seconds. Ujagar Singh of Maholi Kalan village and Binda of Sahabana village were the joint second clocking 19.94 seconds.
