Bathinda
500 students take GATE exam in city
: Around 500 students appeared for the GATE entrance exam held at the Baba Farid Engineering College on Sunday. The exam was held in as many as 16 centres set up in the state. While the IIT, Roorkee, conducted the exam in Bathinda, the overall organiser of the event was the IIT, Mumbai.

Accreditation granted
: Chandigarh Child Care Centre in Kotkapura town of Faridkot district has received accreditation from the National Neonatology Forum (NNF). The NNF is an apex body of paediatricians in India and has set national standards to ensure the quality of newborn care. Those hospitals which fulfill these standards get the certificate of quality by the NNF.

Elderly woman found murdered: Amarjit Kaur (70) was allegedly found murdered at her house in Ward No. 5 here on Sunday. She had been living alone in the house. Theft is said to be the motive behind the crime. The accused allegedly took away an LPG gas cylinder, a pair of gold ear rings and a mobile phone. Station House Officer (SHO) Gurmeet Singh the robbers attacked the woman with a scissor. A case under Section 460 of the IPC had been registered, he added.

Suspected swine flu patient in Sangrur
: A suspected swine flu patient, Kaushalya Devi (50) of Longowal village, who was admitted to the local Civil Hospital on Saturday, has been shifted to the Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala. Sangrur Civil Surgeon HS Bali said the patient was suffering from acute pneumonia. Nodal officer for swine flu Dr Gazali said the throat swab sample of the patient had been sent to the PGI, Chandigarh, for a swine flu test.

: The Haryana Government has constituted an eight-member high-powered committee to review the functioning of the Haryana State Cooperative Agriculture and Rural Development Bank (HSCARDB) and work out an action plan to improve its financial health.

Four held
: The police has arrested four robbers on Sunday. The crime branch team got a tip off that these criminals were plotting to rob a vehicle at Sector 56 here. The crime branch team led by inspector Rajbeer Singh, in-charge of crime branch, Sector 46, nabbed them while they were plotting.

Two dead
: Two persons were killed in separate accidents in the Assandh area when some speeding vehicles hit them. The police has registered cases under Sections 279 and 304-A against drivers.

3 arrested
: The police has arrested three women under the Excise Act and seized 25 bottles of country-made liquor from them. The police spokesman said the arrested women had been identified as Babli, Beero and Maya Devi.

Rewari
Canter looted
: Some miscreants in a Bolero SUV intercepted a canter on the NH-8, near Khijoori village, and forcibly took away the canter from its driver Narender Kumar of Nasopur village in Alwar district of Rajasthan. The incident took place when Narender was returning to his village after unloading cattle fodder at Shahjehanpur town in Alwar district.

Cash stolen: Jugal Kishore Soni of Bhiwani was robbed of cash and jewellery when he was preparing to solemnize the marriage of his daughter in a banquet hall on the Delhi road on Friday. Some miscreant covertly made off with his bag containing Rs 2.50 lakh and jewellery. A case has been registered.
