Child was murdered, say
docs
Dera Bassi, January 15 The preliminary symptoms revealed that the child, Jaskaran Singh, was murdered before being thrown into the well, doctors said. It was not a case of drowning, they said. Victim’s clothes had been sent to a forensic laboratory in Kharar and viscera to Rajindra Medical College, Patiala, for examination. The child went missing on last Wednesday. The dead body was later recovered by the police during a search operation. |
Admn waits for HC order
Chandigarh, January 15 Sources said after facing embarrassment at the Central Club, Sector 9, this time the UT is not in a hurry. In the Central Club case, the UT Administration had sealed the club as the club management had failed to clear its dues, but later on the directions of the High Court, the club was opened. The sources stated that the Administration was also mulling to cancel the golf club's bar licence. On November 15, last year, the UT Administration had finalised the new lease deed of the Chandigarh Golf Club with effect from March 16, 2008. According to the new lease, the club was asked to shell out Rs 1.54 crore annually. Besides, the club was also asked to clear its outstanding dues amounting to Rs 6 crore within two months of the receipt of the notice. Thereafter, penal interest would be charged as per rules. At present, the club is paying a meagre amount of Rs 8,200 per month as rent for the building, which was fixed in 1988. The new lease will be valid for five years i.e. till March 15, 2013. The Golf Club management had also approached the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), but till date the management has not got any response from the MHA. |

Former P’kula ADC acquitted in molestation case
Panchkula, January 15 Finding no circumstantial evidences and witnesses turning hostile, all of them were acquitted. The others accused were Bhupinder Singh, Tikka Ram, Sardara Singh, Kamal Singh, Devinder Singh, Paras Ram and Tirlokh Singh. Kumar is currently the HUDA administrator at Rohtak. It was in 2008, when the then ADC and the other officials came to know that a woman was making use of government land in Morni. All accused went to the spot where they allegedly thrashed the two women and assaulted them.The women had approached the police, but a case was only registered after they moved the court. All of them were booked under Sections 354 (assault with intent to outrage modesty), 147, 149 and 294 of the IPC. |

Property dealer booked on eve-teasing charge
Chandigarh, January 15 The accused is absconding and raids are on to nab him. The police also booked him under the Punjab Instrument Control of Noise Act, 1956, as he played loud music to harass the girl. Bajwa along with others is absconding. In her complaint to the police, the girl alleged that Bajwa made objectionable gestures and comments and played loud music whenever she was in her house. The police said that the father of the accused was in property dealing business. A case was registered at the Sector 26 police station. |

City team win hockey title
Chandigarh, January 15 The visiting side fought hard but went down against strong rivals by 2-1.Till the 30th minute both teams were at par but it was Gurpreet Singh, who struck the wooden plank, to seal the first half with the score1-0. In the second half, Uttar Pradesh made a come back in the 49th minute through Ajay Yadav, who successfully dodge the defenders and netted the equaliser. Later, Mandeep sealed the local team’s victory by scoring the winning goal in the 57th minute of the match. In another match played for the third spot, the team from Delhi beat Jharkhand by 5-2.The loosing side scored the first goal in the 27th minute with Munj Nagi scoring the lead but Sahil levelled the score in the 16th minute. And after that the Delhi team began their wining campaign with Pardeep (39th minute), Sumit (46th minute), Somjeet (58th minute) and Parveen (64th minute) scoring a goal each. On other hand, Munj Nagi again scored a goal for Jharkhand in the 43rd minute. Haryana lifts girls’trophy The eves of Haryana lifted the girls’ (U-17) trophy by thrashing Mizoram 8-1. For the winning side, Sonika (34th and 39th), Navpreet (5th and 16th), Navneet (9th and 50th) scored two goals each while Ritu and Deepika contributed a goal each to ensure team’s victory. For Mizoram, Hlanruakimi scored the lone goal for the team in the 40th minute. In another match played for the third spot, Jharkhand defeated Delhi by 3-0. Nisha Rani put the team after scoring two goals in the 16th and 58th minutes of the match. Sita Rani completed the score tally after scoring a goal in the 33rd minute of the match. |

For Punjab, Tejpreet, Karan Pathak and Rahul claimed two wickets each.In reply, the Punjab team failed to achieve the target and was bowled out for 162 runs in 31.2 overs. Nipun Dogra and Abhinav Sharma scored 69 and 34 runs, respectively. Sahil Khatri took a five-wicket haul for the team. On other hand, the local side attained third place by defeating Uttar Pradesh at the cricket ground of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 26.Electing to bowl first, the winning side restricted the visiting side, on a mere total of 194 runs.
