Hardy’s World raided
Excise officials seize documents, liquor cartons; expect huge tax evasion

Ludhiana, December 25
The Excise and Taxation Department today conducted a raid on Hardy's World and seized important documents and liquor cartons. Hardy's World houses an amusement park, a water park, a marriage resort and a restaurant.

Train schedule remains off track
Ludhiana, December 25
Most of the long route trains continue to run behind schedule with a couple of trains being cancelled by the Railways due to fog. The element of uncertainty in the train timetable is keeping passengers on tenterhooks as many of them would miss important commitments and some would miss connecting trains or air links for their onward journey.

No let up in fog
Ludhiana, December 25
Thick fog and chill threw life out of gear in the city for the third consecutive day. The inclement weather forced the residents to stay indoors, giving Christmas celebrations a miss. The visibility, which was zero in the morning, improved by 12.30 pm.

Ludhiana, December 25
Beautifully decorated churches across the city were over crowded as the devotees thronged to offer prayer to Jesus Christ on Christmas. Not only Christian families but non-Christian families showed enthusiasm in celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. Fog did not deter the spirits of the devotees who were seen rushing to the churches early in the morning. People offered prayers while mass prayers and other rituals had begun on the Christmas Eve itself.

Woman gives birth in ambulance 
Jagraon, December 25
A migrant pregnant woman gave birth to a girl child in an ambulance near Halwara town, about 17-18 km away from Jagraon, when she was being taken to the hospital for delivery today.

Uniforms distributed among students of GSSS, Akhara

To motivate the economically weak students towards education and instill in them self-esteem, a uniform distribution program was organised at Government Senior Secondary School, Akhara, near Jagraon today.

A year of unfulfilled promises, incomplete projects

The Railways has nothing much to write home about as far as their performance during the year is concerned. Most of their promises to improve passenger amenities at the railway station and the highest revenue generating station in the Ferozepur division of the Railways remained unfulfilled while a major infrastructure development projects at the railway station and in the city also failed to materialise.

Farmers from ASEAN countries visit PAU

A 27-member delegation from ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) countries visited the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. The delegation comprised of one agricultural officer and two farmers, each from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, LaoPDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. Their visit has been sponsored by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi under ASEAN-India exchange programme.

Blood donation camp
NSS volunteers of Gobindgarh Public College, Alour, Khanna, offered remarkable community services during the fourth day of camp. NSS unit of college organised a blood donation camp. In this camp 40 volunteers donated blood. A medical check-up camp was also organised in which a team of doctors took a regular medical check-up of the volunteers.

Fun, frolic and festivity mark celebrations
Vajra Army School
Vajra Army School celebrated Christmas with a festive spirit wherein the school premises were aptly decorated and the students dressed for the occasion. The tiny tots of kindergarten presented a colourful dance on “I will make you fishers of men”. The primary students presented the nativity play to convey the message of love, tolerance and brotherhood. `Jingle bells', ‘Rudolph - the red nose reindeer', filled the air with festivity. Finally, the much awaited Santa Claus made a grand entry to distribute gifts and chocolates to the students and staff.



 

Athletics meet: Pancham races to glory

The 68th annual athletics meet, a three-day event, started with a grand opening ceremony at the KVM today. BK Singh, IRS, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, Ludhiana, was the chief guest.
