BEd student commits suicide
: A 23-year-old student of SSD Girls’ College committed suicide here on Tuesday. A student of B Ed, Jaishree Garg was found hanging from the ceiling of Room No 6, Hostel No 2, Block B. Jaishree belonged to Maur. Sources said when Jaishree did not respond to her parents phone calls, they called up the hostel warden at around 7 pm. The warden went to Jaishree's room and found that the door was locked. The door was broke opened. Jaishree's body was found hanging from the ceiling. The police found a suicide note as well as prescription slips of a city-based psychiatrist from the room. Further investigation is on.

e-challaning from next month
: Punjab is all set to become the first state in the country to introduce e-challaning of vehicles. Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal and Transport Minister Ajit Singh Kohar on Tuesday reviewed the model of e-challaning which will be introduced next month. Under the system, officials will be given handheld devices connected to the main server of the Transport Department. On entering the offence, the server will calculate the fine and give an option to the offender to pay it on the spot.

Two crushed to death : Two persons were crushed to death while two others were inured after a truck went out of control. The incident took place at 10.30 pm on Gaushala Road when Dharminder, cleaner of the truck, lost control over of the vehicle. The truck ran over two persons and injured two more persons before it came to a halt. Two persons died on the spot while the injured were rushed to a hospital. The police has arrested Dharminder. The truck driver was having dinner when the incident took place. 

Sangrur
Dowry death
: Three of family booked: The police has booked three members of a family of Khillrian village for allegedly killing a 22-year-old woman, Gurpreet Kaur, for dowry. Among those booked are victim's husband Satnam Singh, father-in-law Bhura Singh and sister-in-law Hardip Kaur. In his complaint, the victim's brother alleged that his sister's husband and other members of the family had been harassing her for bringing less dowry. A case has been registered under Section 304-B of the IPC. 

Class IV staff stage protest in Sangrur: Members of the district unit of Class IV Government Employees Union gheraoed the office of Water Supply and Sanitation Department Superintending Engineer here on Tuesday. They were protesting against the officer alleging that the benefit of special increment was not being given by him to the employees as per instructions of the Punjab Government. They lifted the gherao only after Assistant Commissioner (grievances) GS Sahota intervened and assured the protesters that the administration would get clarification from the department’s head office within 15 days.
