Nitish returns from Pak via Attari
: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, leading an 11-member delegation from Bihar, on Friday returned from Pakistan through Attari-Wagah land route. He said back-to-back visits by Indian delegations, first from Punjab led by its Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and now from Bihar, would help in improving bilateral relations between India and Pakistan. He hoped that frequent exchange of delegations and ideas between the neighbouring countries would not only help develop relations but also usher in an era of development and growth. He said wars between the two nations had failed to deliver any result and its futility was now being felt among the political establishments across the borders.

Power-lifter killed in road mishap:
An international-level power-lifter, Gurmukh Singh (45), was killed while four of his colleagues sustained serious injuries in a road accident near Bardhalan village on Friday. The victims were on their way to participate in North India and Punjab Junior Power Lifting Championship that was to start in Samrala on Friday. The accident was the aftermath of a collission between two vehicles.

Man gets 7-year jail in murder bid case
: A local court on Friday sentenced a man to seven-year imprisonment after finding him guilty in an attempt to murder case. District and Sessions Judge Karamjit Singh Kang announced the sentence in the case registered on August 11, 2010, against Chamkaur Singh, a resident of Samadh Bhai. The convict had tried to strangulate a resident of Cheeda village, Kiran Pal Kaur. A fine of Rs 5,000 was also slapped on Chamkaur. Failing to deposit the fine, he would have to undergo additional three-month jail

52-yr-old murdered in Moonak area
: The Moonak police has registered a case against Harpreet Singh of Badalgarh village and others for allegedly murdering Raja Ram (52) of Rai Dharana village near Lehra. However, no arrests have been made so far. The police said this evening that the reason behind the murder is believed to be transaction of money over the sale of a buffalo. The body of Raja Ram was found from Banga village near Moonak.

Farmers stage dharna in Sangrur: The local residents and shopkeepers on Friday faced inconvenience as hundreds of farmers under the banner of Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ugrahan) staged a dharna and blocked road for three hours in front of The Sangrur Central Cooperative Bank Limited here. The dharna was staged against the bank authorities for reducing cash loan amount for farmers, who were members of the cooperative societies. The protesters lifted the dharna only after the bank authorities assured them that they would get the same cash loan amounts as they had been getting in the past years.

Rath yatra on girl child
: Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda will flag off a rath yatra to highlight the issue of “Save girl child” on the foundation stone laying ceremony of Kalpana Chawla Medical College in Karnal on November 18. An official spokesman on Friday said the rath yatra would spread awareness regarding consequences of female foeticide in five villages of the district everyday. He said with a view to curb the menace of female foeticide, the district administration had also launched a special campaign in September 2011. On the sixth of every month ‘Sankalap Divas’ was being observed to eradicate this social evil.

Additional charge: Brijendra Singh, Managing Director, Haryana Warehousing Corporation, has been given the additional charge of Director and Joint Secretary, Food and Supplies Department and Managing Director, CONFED, during the leave period of Rajbir Singh.

Tributes paid to Rao Gopal Dev
: Led by Shanti Devi, Capt Ajay Singh Yadav’s mother, and Ashok Rao and Davender Rao, descendants of Rao Gopal Dev, and distinguished citizens paid floral tributes at the statue of Rao Gopal Dev here on Friday to mark the 155th anniversary of the historic battle of Nasibpur. Rao Gopal Dev, who had spearheaded the revolt against British imperialism in Rewari domain in 1857, had fought the historic battle against the British at Nasibpur, near Narnaul, on November 16, 1857 as a commander of the Indian forces. However, as a sequel to the British victory in the battle, Rao Copal Dev escaped to the then Bikaner state in Rajasthan where he died in obscurity in 1862.

3 girls to get Indira Gandhi award
: President Pranab Mukherjee will present the prestigious Indira Gandhi National Award to three NSS volunteers from the district, Monika Dhillon and Priyanka Malik, students of BPS Women University, Khanpur Kalan, and Radha, a student of Government Women College, Murthal, on November 19 in New Delhi. Only these girl students had been nominated by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for the award from Haryana.

Dalhousie
One killed in mishap:
A person died on the spot after being hit by a pickup vehicle, near Goli on the Dalhousie-Chamba highway, last evening. An official report revealed that the deceased was identified as Nidhia Ram, a local resident. He was walking alongside the highway with his son Kasturi Lal when the mishap occurred. A case of rash and negligent driving against the driver was registered at the Dalhousie police station.

Hamirpur
Proclaimed offender held
: Officials of the Badsar police have arrested a proclaimed offender, Suresh Kumar, belonging to Dehar village of Mandi district, after a tip-off. The accused was declared a proclaimed offender in 2009 by a court in a criminal case and was eluding arrest since then.

Former SP Bali dead

Retired Superintendent of Police, S Narinder Singh Bali, died after a brief illness on November 12. Bali had joined the J&K Police department in 1959 as an Assistant Inspector. He was remembered in his locality and among his colleagues as a gentlemen and a dedicated police officer.
