Warrants against Home Secy
Chandigarh, November 16
The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) today issued bailable warrants against UT Home Secretary Anil Kumar after he failed to appear before the Bench following a show-cause notice issued to him on October 19. The show-cause notice was issued to him for failing to implement an order pertaining to quashing of "accelerated promotions" of UT police inspectors under the reserved category.

The accused in the loan fraud case in police custody in Chandigarh on Friday Housing loan scam unearthed
Chandigarh, November 16
In a multi-crore bank fraud case, the UT police today arrested a former manager of Punjab and Sind Bank, Sector 24, Rajinder Singh Kalsi, along with two others. With these arrests, the police has unearthed a racket of sanctioning of housing loans under fictitious names by duping the bank.

Factory blast: Bid to hush up case?
Panchkula, November 16
A day after a worker, Ram Dheer, died in a blast in a boiler installed illegally in a sweets manufacturing unit, the Panchkula police has not registered a case of negligence against anyone. The unit belongs to former Haryana Financial Commissioner Raj Kumar.

SIM card dealer held
Chandigarh, November 16
A team of the CBI today rounded up a SIM card dealer from Behlana village who sold as many as 48 SIM cards to Shaik Afroz, one of the accused in the PGI paper leak case. A team of the CBI nabbed the dealer, Naval Kumar. He is being interrogated to get further clues in the case.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s daughter, Prof Upinder (right), comes out of the house where she stayed during her childhood, at the PU on Friday It was a nostalgic moment for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s daughter who visited the house where she had spent many years of her childhood when the Prime Minister was a teacher at Panjab University. Upinder Singh, a history Professor who was in the university for a lecture, visited house F-15 to relive old memories. UBS professor Dinesh Gupta’s son, who was alone at the home, played host to the PM’s daughter.

In another development in the Anupama case, the PGI nodal officer of the Advanced Trauma Centre and the General Manager (GM) of the CTU will be questioned on November 29, 2012 before the UT State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.

P’kula admn didn’t keep word on relief ompensation given to victim’s kin

While the Panchkula Administration was beating drums in the previous blast case at a factory in Industrial Area, Phase II, that due compensation would be given to the kin of the deceased worker by them, it has come to light that no such compensation was given.

The amount spent by the UT Electricity Department on purchasing electricity during the summer to meet the shortage of power will be recovered from consumers. The consumers will have to shell out more in their next electricity bill.

MC fails to start afternoon water supply
Chandigarh, November 16
More than five months have passed since the Municipal Corporation had stopped afternoon water supply in the city to solve water crisis in summers, but the civic body failed to start afternoon water supply till now. In May, when the MC stopped afternoon water supply, they had assured that soon they would start the service. Sources revealed that the MC would not be able to start the service in the coming days as well. Mukesh Bassi, Chairman of the Water Supply Committee, said they would raise the issue at the next meeting.

UT Class IV staff get peanuts for uniform

Sample this: A class IV male employee of the Chandigarh Administration is entitled for just Rs 594 to buy three pairs of shirts, three pairs of trousers and a turban as the official uniform for a period of three years. This also includes the cost of stitching the uniform.

Darbara Singh’s residence at Sector 5 in Chandigar Under the spotlight for not vacating the sprawling government accommodation in Sector 5 without holding any post after losing the last assembly elections, Darbara Singh Guru, a former principal secretary of the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has given an undertaking to the Chandigarh Administration that he would vacate the house by November 20.

Students submit fake medical certificates?
Chandigarh, November 16
With the semester exams around the corner, The PU students, who are short of attendance, are on a spree of submitting medical certificates and interestingly, abdominal pain is the common problem reported by the students. They submit medical certificates issued by private doctors of adjoining areas. There are also some cases, in which the same doctor has issued certificates.

SSA contractual teachers yet to get revised salaries

Although, the Chandigarh Administration revised the monthly-consolidated salary of its contractual employees with effect from September this year, yet over 500 contractual teachers, recruited under the Sarav Shikha Abhiyan, are waiting revision in their salaries.

Police van catches fire in Ambala
Ambala November 16
A van of the Ambala police control room caught fire all of sudden near Moon Palace at Ambala City here this afternoon. The van was burnt completely. The driver of the van and the other police personnel in the van escaped unhurt.

In order to check the environment pollution caused by stubble burning, the Agriculture Department in the district would offer 34 happy seeder machines on subsidy to farmers.

Two convicted of drug smuggling
Chandigarh, November 16
A local court today sentenced two persons to ten years rigorous imprisonment in a drug smuggling case. The court convicted Raj and Veer under various Sections of the NDPS Act. A fine of Rs 1 lakh each have been imposed on them.


CRIME

Four booked for cheating in separate cases
Chandigarh, November 16
The UT police registered as many as four cases of cheating in the city in the last 24 hours. The police booked Amandeep Singh, owner of Cyber Link, SCO number 100-101, Sector 34, on a complaint filed by Sushil Kumar. The accused took Rs 4 lakh from complainant for a work permit of Canada, but failed to provide with the work permit and refused to return the money. A case of cheating has been registered at Sector 34 police station.

Thieves strike at four showrooms in Mohali

In a series of theft, thieves struck at four showrooms in Phase VII, here last night and decamped with some cash and goods, worth about Rs 40,000.
