Moga
Moga woman commits suicide
: A woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at Landeke village on the outskirts of Moga town. Married to Jasvir Singh 10 years ago, the deceased, Kamaljit Kaur, reportedly used to have frequent fights with her husband as he was a "drug addict". The body was handed over to her family members after a post-mortem examination. Police has registered a case of abetment to suicide against Jasvir and his brother Balbir Singh.

760 gm heroin recovered
: The district police on Friday achieved a major breakthrough in its drive against drug menace by arresting two drug smugglers who were residents of Jammu & Kashmir. Around 760 gm of heroin worth Rs 4.60 crore in the international market was recovered from their possession. The accused, Sonu and Om Parkash, both residents of Kathua, were arrested following a tip-off on the Bhaddi-Bungri road here. A case has been registered at Balachaur police station.

2 held for killing truck driver
: The district police on Friday claimed to have arrested two motorcyclists who allegedly killed a truck driver last month after a spat over overtaking. Identified as Vikramjit Singh and Sukhvir Singh of Fatehpur Bunga village, the accused allegedly killed the victim, Ramesh Chand, a resident of Nalagarh, when he did not allow their motorcycle to move ahead of his truck. Senior Superintendent of Police Inder Mohan Singh said on October 4, the deceased's body was found lying near his truck. 

Liquor banned in Ropar border areas: The district administration has banned sale of liquor within 3 km of the border with Himachal Pradesh as the hill state is going to polls on November 4. Deputy Commissioner Pradip Kumar Agrawal said the ban would remain effective till 5 pm on November 4.

Sangrur schools get `15.36 cr-grant
: The state government has released Rs 15.36 crore under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) to improve the infrastructure of schools in Sangrur district. Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa said besides the RMSA funds, additional Rs 50,000 had been given to each school in the district to strengthen infrastructure. He said in Sunam Assembly constituency alone, 41 schools had received Rs 2.35 crore under the RMSA. 

Two killed in road mishaps: Two persons were killed in different road accidents during the past 24 hours. The Sunam police said Karamjit Singh, a resident of Kherri village, died on the spot this evening when a truck hit his motorcycle on the Sangrur-Mehlan road. In another accident on the Uppli road, Amritpal Singh (27), a resident of Uppli village, died on the spot as his tractor overturned when Bhim Sain rammed his scooter into the tractor. A case had been registered against Bhim Sain.
