Schools roped in for anti-drug drive: The Punjab Government is involving all government, private and aided schools and colleges of the state in organising anti-drug programmes on November 19 and 20. Kahan Singh Pannu, Director, General School Education (DGSE), in a communication to DPIs (Secondary Education and Elementary Education), block education officers, district education officers and all principals has asked them to carry out the programme as per the detailed schedule. Besides lectures by school heads, poster-making and slogan and poem-writing competitions will be held on November 19. All institutions will take out rallies for two hours on November 20.
Three IAS officers transferred: The Punjab Government on Wednesday transferred three IAS and one PCS officer in the state with immediate effect. An official spokesman said Ravneet Kaur, Secretary, Defence Services Welfare, had been posted as Secretary, School Education, and in addition Secretary, Higher Education and Languages. Husan Lal, Secretary, School Education, has been posted as Secretary, Home Affairs and Justice. Parveen Kumar Thind, ADC (G), Fatehgarh Sahib, has been posted ADC (D), SAS Nagar. APS Virk, PCS, Secretary (Examination), Punjab Public Service Commission, Patiala, has been posted as ADC (G), Fatehgarh Sahib.

Jeep rams into tree, one dead: A youth was killed and another seriously injured when a Bolero they were travelling in rammed into a tree on a link road near Talania village on Tuesday night. The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Gurjant Singh of Talania village, while the injured as Satnam Singh, resident of Loharmajra Kalan. The Bolero was being driven by Gurjant. The injured was rushed to the Civil Hospital, from where he was referred to a private hospital in Khanna. The police has registered a case and handed over the body of the victim to his family members after postmortem.

Man, daughter killed in accident: A man and his daughter were killed in a road accident on the Sunam-Bhawanigarh road at Gharachon village, 12 km from here, on Wednesday. The SHO of Sadar police station, Gurmail Singh, said Satpal Singh (45) and his daughter Parminder Kaur (18), both residents of Ladal village, near Lehragaga, were going on a motorcycle towards Bhawanigarh when a truck coming from the opposite side collided with them. He said the police had registered a case under Section 304-A of the IPC against the truck driver, who had fled from the spot.
