The house tax defaulters are all set to have sleepless nights ahead of Divali as the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation is starting an aggressive campaign for the recovery of outstanding dues from tomorrow.

Mini Secretariat parking lot to open today, admn fetches Rs 45 lakh

The much-awaited multi-storeyed parking lot at the Mini Secretariat will finally be open to the general public from tomorrow following its auction by the district administration today. The parking lot fetched the district administration Rs 45 lakh. The contract has been awarded for five months.

Staff shortage plagues health department 
Ludhiana, October 31
The health department has been facing an acute staff shortage. Sources said there were only two Food Safety Officers and one District Health Officer in the department. Whenever any VIP comes to the city, these officers are told to check the quality of food to be served to the VIP.

The traffic police cracked a whip on tipplers who have become a nuisance for residents visiting Sarabha Nagar Market and the Malhar Road area. The police challaned drunk drivers and a few were rounded up as they could not produce documents of vehicles.

Accused held following a hot chase

A city resident, identified as Amit Jain, who was evading arrest for nearly a year, was nabbed by the police from the district courts complex following a hot chase today.

IT dept conducts raids, surveys ahead of Divali

Sleuths of the Income Tax Department today conducted raids on five premises of Palace Jewellers this morning. These included two business establishments and three residential premises.

Bollywood and Hollywood stars are playing a big role on cracker boxes this year. Manufacturers have used pictures of Katrina Kaif, Riteish Deshmukh, Jackie Chan, Rani Mukherji and Bipasha Basu on cracker boxes to make them hotter.

Garbage being dumped on road

Despite repeated requests for its removal, dumping of garbage continues on the Railway road here. The heap of garbage gives a cold reception to all of those who use this road. For years, this heap of garbage has inconvenienced residents, shopkeepers, and visitors. The local body officials, however, have failed to ban the dumping of garbage on the road and shift it to another place.

Mayor finds two MC employees absent from duty

Two MC employees were found absent from duty when Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria conducted a surprise check in the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation's Zone D building located in Sarabha Nagar, here today. This is the second consecutive checking of MC offices by the Mayor, with the earlier one being in the MC's Zone C office yesterday.

11 more suspected of dengue
Ludhiana, October 31
As many as 11 suspected cases of dengue have been reported from various hospitals of Ludhiana, a report of the health department said. "Three suspected cases of dengue have been reported from DMC, Ludhiana, and six paients belong to other districts. These include two from Hoshiarpur, one each from Mohali, Sangrur, Jalandhar and Bathinda. Two cases have come from Rajasthan and J&K.

The victim Gold earrings snatched from elderly woman

An unidentified person snatched gold earrings of an elderly woman here today. The incident took place at Pratap Nagar in the afternoon. The victim has been identified as Vazira Rani.

Murder accused's mother arrested

The local police today arrested Neelam Saini, mother of Rahul Saini, who had allegedly murdered his wife Harpreet Kaur alias Seema by strangulating her at their residence in Phase X on Sunday and fled along with their five-year-old son.
