Students clash outside Guru Nanak Stadium in the presence of a policeman in Ludhiana on Saturday.
A student of Government Senior Secondary School, Model Town, was beaten up by some other students after he stopped them from teasing girls at Guru Nanak Stadium today. Ironically, the incident took place in the presence of the police.

Getting birth certificates to become easier

To make the procedure of getting birth and death certificates easier, the District Administration and health department have prepared a computer-base data of all records which got damaged in a fire that took place in birth and death record office in 1994.

Geo-Spatial Data Centre to survey all districts
Ludhiana, October 20
The Director of Land Records, Punjab, said, "Since Geo-Spatial Data Centre, Survey of India, will conduct a survey in all districts of Punjab for the authentication of field records/administrative boundaries, cooperation must be provided to the team by all SDMs/Tehsildars/Naib Tehsildars and other revenue officials."

Sweets samples collected

A team of the district health department today collected eight samples of sweets from various shops at Jagraon. Food safety officer Ravinder Garg said,"We collected two samples of khoya burfi and khoya from Ram Lal Hakoomat Rai's shop, two samples of burfi and khoya burfi from Satti Sweets Old Grain Market, two samples of gulab jamun and khoya burfi from Mohan Sweets, Guru Teg Bahadur Chowk, and two samples of khoya and khoya burfi from Daleep Sweets at the Tehsil Chowk."

A businessman from Feroze Gandhi market has accused a parking contractor of the area for overcharging. This is not for the first time that someone has accused the contractor of overcharging.

Men of Khera family have been essaying the role of the Demon King Ravana from the past 42 years. Acting runs in their blood and it is the third generation of the Khera family that is essaying the role of Ravana to perfection. Acting in Ram Leela was started by Dhayan Chand, while Raj Kumar followed in his father's footsteps and now Vijay was doing the same.
Come festival season and there is lot of hustle bustle in the Khera family. Rehearsals, costumes and make-up become the talk of the family during the Navratra season.

MC recovers Rs 39 lakh from retail chain
Ludhiana, October 20
The cash-starved Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has started making efforts to recover the outstanding dues from big companies operating in the city. Continuing the drive, the MC has recovered Rs 39.25 lakh as house tax from a retail chain, Best Price, which is running its operations in the city.

Ludhiana: LCET students hogged limelight in the PTU Inter-Zonal Youth Festival. Students of Ludhiana College of Engineering and Technology won various competitions organised at Desh Bhagat Institute, Mandi Gobindgarh, on October 16 and 17. The two-day youth fest witnessed various activities.

Lawyers boycott courts
Ludhiana, October 20
Expressing annoyance over the start of evening courts and demanding withdrawal of the same, the local lawyers boycotted the courts. The members of the District Bar Association (DBA) were also demanding to observe five days a week to give some relief to the legal fraternity.

Four drivers arrested, trucks impounded
Jagraon, October 20
The Hathur police has confiscated four trucks involved in illegal smuggling of sand. The trucks were impounded by the police from different places during separate operations in the Hathur area in the past 24 hours.

3 held with 60 gas cylinders
Ludhiana, October 20
In a major breakthrough, the city police has arrested three accused working with different gas-companies, who used to take out gas from LPG cylinders before delivering it to the consumers and refilled empty cylinders with it and sold it to consumers on black. The police has recovered 60 gas-cylinders from their possession from which the accused had taken out the gas. Besides, material used to open the seals of the cylinders was also recovered from them.

Man dies at railway station
Ludhiana, October 20
A 65-year-old man having a beard died on platform Number 6 at the Ludhiana Railway Station at 10 pm last night. Pyara Singh, ASI, GRP, said that the person was coming from Ferozpur. When the train halted in Ludhiana, he got off the train and collapsed suddenly.

Hosts Ludhianas district in the girls’ category and Mansa district in the boys’ section began their campaign on a positive note as they wrapped up their matches in kho-kho on the opening day of the 28th edition of the Punjab State Inter-District Primary School Games which kick started at the Guru Nanak Stadium here today.
