Chandigarh, October 20
Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Sector 16, is all set to get two new clay lawn tennis courts on its premises. The construction work that began recently will be completed within a month, said school officials.

These courts are being set up under the latest policy of the education department to provide better sports infrastructure to the government schools. Other government schools where clay lawn tennis courts will be set up are GMSSS-23, GMSSS-33 and Government Model High School, Sector 41.

GMSSS-16 principal Anujit Kaur said the courts are being set up to provide in-house facilities to the school’s lawn tennis team, besides creating a venue for various school competitions in the city.

The school, at present, has two concrete lawn tennis courts, but students often complain of pain in calf muscle while playing on the concrete surface. The new courts will bring better in-house facilities and more space and time for holding practice sessions.

The courts, which are the standard clay courts, are being constructed with the technical support of the Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association. Once the courts are set up, the higher authorities have ensured all the required facilities, including ground men and other equipment required for the games, Anujit Kaur said.
