Dera Bassi Civic body election on November 2

The much awaited elections to the posts of president and vice-president of the Dera Bassi Municipal Council (DMC) will take place on November 2. At present both the posts are lying vacant as the term of vice-president Harjinder Singh Rangi had expired on October 16 and the post president has been lying vacant since October 15 last year. Although the ruling SAD-BJP combine has 12 elected councillors out of the total strength of 13 members, yet the council remained without president.

SDM Inderjit Kaur Kang said elections to both the posts would be held on November 2 and notices regarding this had already been served to all councillors.

Constable kidnapped, 10 villagers booked

A Punjab police constable, Varinder Singh, posted at the Crime Branch, Chandigarh, was allegedly kidnapped by his villagers on October 16.

Varinder is a resident of a nearby Amlala village. The Dera Bassi police has registered a case of kidnapping against 10 persons of the same village on the complaint of Varinder’s brother.

In the complaint, filed with the Dera Bassi police, brother of the victim, Manpreet Singh, alleged that some persons of his village had kidnapped his brother on October 16. He reported in the complaint that they had a land dispute with some of the residents of the same village so his brother by them with the intention of killing. He informed that his brother could not be found till now despite repeated efforts and only his scooter was found near Janetpur village on October 17. The cell phone of the victim is switched off.

The police has registered a case against Guljar, Deedar, Jageer, Harpreet, Haryadavinder Singh, Iqbal singh, Vicky, Sajjan, Mikka and Preetam all residents of Amlala, under Section 364 and 120B. The police has started investigation but no clue could be found till now. — OC

Thau Football Academy, Manipur, beat the Chandigarh Football Association by the margin of 4 goals to 1 in a match held today here.

Manipur lads started the game with a fast note and mounted pressure on the local side from the kick-off.

Local lads took time to read the game as Manipur lads stunned them with their short passes and skillful play.

In the 9th minute of play Manipur lads, initiated a move from the mid field where Arnold Singh framed a good move from the right side he gave a lofted pass to the right winder deep towards the corner flag lost.

The right flank, Vicky Singh, sent a superb cross towards the penalty sport where alert Chungneihen Km made no mistake in scoring the first goal for his team.

On conceding the early goal, local lads were upset, the Manipur lads availed this opportunity and pumped one more goal in the very next minute. It was now Vicky, who netted second goal for his team in the 10th minute of play.

The winners were leading by 2-0 at the breather. After the lemon break, Manipur pumped two more goals through Rishi Kumar Singh in 57th minute of play and Kishan Singh in the 75th minute of the play. Suraj of the Chandigarh Football Association reduced the margin and scored the only goal for Chandigarh in 65th minute of play.
