Two killed in road accidents
Dera Bassi, October 18 Sources said an unknown vehicle hit him around 11 pm and he died on the spot due to severe head injury. The Dera Bassi police has sent the body for the post-mortem. A case has been registered. In another incident , a 60-year-old man was killed in a road accident near Krala village on Rajpura- Chandigarh road on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Amar Singh, a resident of Krala village. The accident occurred when the victim was trying to a turn towards his village and suddenly a car coming from Rajpura side hit him. He died on the spot and the body was handed over to the relatives after conducting post-mortem. The police has registered a case against an unidentified car driver under Sections 279 and 304A of the
IPC. |

People oppose dismantling of Banur police station
Banur, October 18 According to the proposal, villages, which come under the police station, will be attached to Zirakpur, Sohana and Lalru police stations. They people have given an ultimatum of one week to cancel the notification. The people said the move would create law and order problem. Meanwhile, local MLA Hardyal Singh Kamboj said dismantling of the police station was an injustice to the people. He demanded that the Punjab Government should cancel the notification in public interest.

District-level girls' sports meet begins
Fatehgarh Sahib, October 18 Jasbir Pal Kaur Brar, District Sports Officer, said more than 200 girl were participating in the competitions. The winners will represent Fatehgarh Sahib at the state-level inter-district tournament. She said the new sports policy of the Punjab Government was being implemented at village level and youngsters were being motivated to adopt sports.

Apna Ghar case
Panchkula, October 18 On August 7, the CBI had filed a chargesheet in the Apna Ghar case against seven accused. The accused were identified as Jaswanti Devi, her daughter Sushila alias Simmi, her son-in-law Jai Bhagwan, Satish, her brother Jaswant Singh, Veena and her cousin Sheela. The accused had been charged under Sections 313, 376, 374 and 120B
of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The shelter home landed in a controversy when a team of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) raided it premises on
May 9 and rescued its inmates. The Apna Ghar shelter home was run by Bharat Vikash Sangh, an NGO, headed by Jaswanti Devi at Shrinagar Colony of Rohtak. The inmates of Apna Ghar, Rohtak, had levelled serious allegations of rape and human trafficking against Jaswanti Devi, Sushila and the other accused. As many as 103 inmates, mostly women and children, were shifted to other places after the incident. |

Parents attacked, girl abducted
Mohali, October 18 He forcibly took away his daughter on a motor cycle and they could not stop him as they suffered injuries in the attack. He said they both were admitted to the Kharar Civil Hospital where they came to know that the kidnapper had released their daughter and she had returned home. The police has registered a case against Gurdeep Singh under Sections 365, 323 and 506 of the IPC.
2 of immigration firm booked
The police has booked two persons of an immigration company functioning from Phase VI here on charge of duping people of Rs 19.25 lakh. According to the police, Gurdeep Singh and Gurwinder Singh had complained that they had given Rs 19.25 lakh to Deepak Arora and Karandeep Singh for sending them abroad. The company neither sent them abroad nor returned their money. After taking the district attorney’s opinion, a case was registered against the two under Sections 406, 420 and 120 B of the IPC. |

2 held for blackmailing model
Zirakpur, October 18 The women strongly objected when she came to know about the hidden camera but instead of returning her the video clips and pictures, the youths started blackmailing her. It was some time back she came in contact with Sandip, alias Sonu, a resident of Pilibheet, Uttar Pradesh, who was running a film studio at Zirakpur. On his invitation, she had come to the studio last week and was asked to change her dress when the accused took the pictures and made video clips. When the model noticed the camera and demanded the pictures and video clips, the youths pressurised her to have physical relations with them. Later, the girl approached the police. After receiving complaint, the police arrested Sandip and his accomplice Tejinder Gupta of Ambala. A case under Sections 294, 509 and 420 of the IPC. Later, both the accused were sent to14-day judicial remand.

Gorkha Training Center register impressive victory
Chandigarh, October 18 The team registered a 19-2 win over the rivals. Roshan Singh opened the account for the wining side after scoring the first goal in the 45th second of first minute. Rober Metei (6 goals), Noaba Meetei (5 goals), Japis Singh (3 goals), Md Ajmir and Pillercom (2 goals each), were the main goal scorers for the team. In the second match of the day, the Madhya Pradesh Football Association defeated Haryana Football Association by 19- 0. L Nakul Singh of Madhya Pradesh Football Association scored 12 goals including two hat-tricks. Saifuddin (3 goals), Md Danish (2 goals), Avinash Thakur and Chander Pal Singh (one goal each) were the other goal scorers. Sahayatri Football Club, Howrah, overcame Football Coaching Centre, Assam, by 1-0. Saha scored the wining goal in the 71st minute of the game after a goalless first half. |
