Factory Dy GM attacked with rods
Dera Bassi, September 21 The victim, Pratap Narain Singh, who has employed with a industry near Saidpura for the past three months received multiple fractures in his arms and legs and was rushed to a hospital. As per information, Pratap was returning home in his car when the assailants intercepted him in a maruti 800 near the factory at 7 pm. The assailants, who were armed with rods and sticks, pulled Pratap out of car and thrashed him. The police has registered a case and started the investigation. |

Judicial complex will add to traffic woes, say residents
Dera Bassi, September 21 The residents said the space for construction of the Judicial Complex is around 3 acre including the area of tehsil complex, which was already constructed some years ago. The main reason of increase in traffic is the busy link road on which this place is situated and the road connects to various villages. There is no place for parking here, which could cause serious traffic problem. Some lawyers said the Judicial Complex needs a place of minimum 4 acre, which was also needed according to rules. But here, only over two-acre land was available for the separate judicial complex. Meanwhile, the Mohali Deputy Commissioner, Varun Roojam, had already asked solution of the traffic problem which would be considered on the preference basis while constructing the new judicial complex here. Member zila parisad, Salita Saini, said she would raise the issue of the traffic problem with the higher authorities. She advised that forestland which is available near national highway could be used for the construction of new judicial complex. She said construction of the complex at congested place would cause serious traffic problem in the coming years. |

Delhi-based company booked for fraud
Dera Bassi, September 21 As per information, the general manager of the Dera Bassi based Nectarlife Science, had filed a complaint with the police. He reported that the Convotech Projects Limited, New Delhi, had received Rs 10.70 lakh extra in the purchasing of some material and did not return the amount despite repeated appeals. On the complaint of company manager, the police has registered a case under charges of forgery against Delhi based company and started investigation. |

MBA student dies in road mishap
Chandigarh, September 21 The incident occurred at the Maoloya turn in Sector 39. Whereas, his friend, riding pillion sustained injured. The deceased Gagandeep Singh, was an MBA student at a Landan college in Mohali and was a resident of Ballomajra village. Gagandeep suffered fatal head injury and was rushed to a hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead. Both the youths were not wearing helmets. Jail inmate caught with charas
Chandigarh, September 21 The charas was detected after he was being frisked for entry into the jail premises. The narcotics was found hidden in his socks. The inmate, Sakir Alam, was booked in a separate case under the NDPS Act. The accused Alam was lodged in the jail in the connection of a theft case and he was brought back from district courts, Sector 17, to model jail. The police sources said Alam was delivered the narcotics by a person known to him under the nose of security personnel in the District Courts, Sector 17, where he was taken on his regular hearing. In his complaint to the police, deputy superintendent of jail, Amandeep Singh, said, “Alam was being frisked at gate by jail warden when narcotic substances were recovered and later it revealed the substances was charas.” A case of the NDPS Act against Alam was registered at the Sector 34 police station. |

Woman ends her life; in-laws booked
Mohali, September 21 The local police has booked seven of her in-laws on the charge of abetment to suicide at Sohana Police Station. Those who have been booked are Paramjeet Kaur, the mother-in-law of the deceased, Gurmeet Singh, Daljeet Singh, Gurvinder Singh, Rajinder Kaur, Lakhwinder Kaur and Jasbir Singh. The police sources said Sandeep Kaur had committed suicide over some property dispute. She was married to Kulwant Singh and the couple has one-and-a-half-year-old son. The police has recovered a suicide note in which the deceased had categorically mentioned that the custody of her child should not be given to her in-laws. |

Chandigarh, September 21 Winning the toss, MPCA decided to field first and restricted PCC to 228 runs in 48.1 overs. Manish Bhatia, 42 off 53 balls with five boundaries and two sixes, and Gurkirat Mann, 57 off 68 balls with five boundaries, put up 162 runs for 5 in 36 overs for PCC. From there on PCC lost the plot and were bowled out for 228 in 48.1 overs. On blowing side, Gaurav Yadav took 3 wickets for 47, Rameez Khan 3 for 45 and Amarjit Singh 2 for 39. MPCA who needed to win with a bonus to stay aloft in the tournament were able to achieve the target on the last ball of the 40th over. It scored 229 for 7 wickets in 40 over to claim 5 points including a bonus. Anand Singh, 69 off 70 balls with seven boundaries and one six, led MPCA to the victory. He was declared the man of the match. He was ably supported by Salman Beg, 39 off 22 balls including two boundaries and two sixes. Rameez Khan 34, Amithpal 23 and Udit Birla 21 were the other contributors. Rajwinder Golu took 3 wickets for 51 runs and Harmeet Bansal 2 for 68 runs. With this win MPCA ended the league stage with six points in Pool B to occupy the second position, behind DDCA. Brief scores PCC - 228 for all in 48.1 overs. GMHS-36 defeat AHSS
Chandigarh, September 21 Indermohan scored two goals, Samual and Harsharan Khabra scored one each for the winning team. The quarter final is on September 24. In Subroto Cup (u-17 boys), 34 teams from all over India and abroad (including UK, Afghanistan and Bangladesh) are taking part. Teams are divided in eight pools. In earlier matches, GMHS-36d beat Morigaon Higher Secondary and Multipurpose School, Assam, by 3-0 at New Willingtoncamp Stadium, on September 19. Saumel scored three goals for the winning team. In the first match on September 18, GMHS defeated Mozepur Bharti Vidyamandir, West Bengal, by 4-0. Headmaster Rakesh Sood congratulated the players and teachers for their success. Chandigarh, September 21 According to the association general secretary, Darshan Lal, the weighing-in will take place on September 22 while the events will take place on September 23 from 9.00am to 5.00pm. Wrestlers who will bag the first and the second positions in respective categories will be selected to represent Chandigarh at the Senior Wrestling National Championship to be held from November 8 to November 11 at Ayodhya. |
