Heroin worth Rs
50 cr seized: Jawans of the Border Security Force (BSF) today recovered 10 kg of heroin worth Rs 50 crore from the border outpost near Daoke village in the district. RPS Jaswal, DIG, BSF, said the jawans observed some movements across the border fence in the wee hours today. They rushed to the spot and found a 10-ft-long PVC pipe containing 10 packets of heroin. The smugglers managed to give a slip to the jawans, taking advantage of the darkness, he said. Jaswal said since January this year, the BSF had seized 217 kg of heroin and over Rs 46 lakh of fake Indian currency notes, besides arms and ammunition.

Moga jail gets legal aid clinic: Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority and District and Sessions’ Judge Karamjit Singh Kang inaugurated a legal aid clinic on the premises of the sub-jail here on Thursday. Kang said the clinic would provide free legal aid to the inmates and convicts for pursuing their cases. He said it would provide legal advice, draft petitions, applications etc. in both legal and non-legal matters. The judge said several such centres would be opened in rural areas. Woman ends life; in-laws booked: Sumandip Kaur (24) who allegedly faced harassment at the hands of her in-laws for dowry committed suicide by consuming poison at Nihalsinghwala town of the district. In his complaint, her father Ram Singh alleged that her daughter’s husband Jaspal Singh, father-in-law Manga Singh and mother-in-law Shinder Pal Kaur had been torturing her for seeking dowry. 3 health employees found absent: Deputy Commissioner Kumar Rahul on Thursday conducted a surprise check at the office of Senior Medical Officer (SMO) of the Sherpur Community Health Centre. He found three employees, Narinder Singh, Rajbir Kaur and Sunil Jain, absent from the duty. The Deputy Commissioner let off the employees after giving them a warning. He later listened to the grievances of the health staff and assured them of early redressal of the same.
