Website to display status of cases
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, September 13
Information on the progress in your case will soon be just a click away. For, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has logged on to technology for lawyer-litigant friendly initiatives.

As a part of the initiatives, the High Court website has been revamped and upgraded. It now carries the display board exhibiting the status of the on-going cases. As such, the lawyers and even the litigants do not have to be physically present in the High Court complex for reckoning when their case will be taken up for hearing, or the next date. Sitting at home or outside the High Court, they can now know about the cases going on in a particular court. All this and much more was revealed by Justice Hemant Gupta during his address to the Bar.

The interim orders passed by the High Court too would be made available on the website. The process of issuing the orders passed by the Bench too has been simplified. Earlier, after the receipt of application, the complete file was sent from court concerned or the record room. Now, the High Court copy branch would be able to simply download the orders and issue the same after certifying it.

Justice Gupta said the copies of bail orders would be sent to the chief judicial magistrate, the SSP and jail authorities through e-mail. Earlier, the office of CJM had to call the high court for confirmation of the orders to avoid any fraud.

In case of litigation against the State, the High Court has also made provisions to send the copies of petition to the officers concerned in Haryana, Punjab or Chandigarh through e-mail. Justice Gupta said the High Court was only waiting for the e-mail IDs of all the officials concerned of the two states and Union Territory.

Tribune News Service

Panchkula, September 13
The Panchkula police has busted a prostitution racket at Raipur Rani and arrested seven persons. The racket was being run from Meera Wali Haveli at Raipur Rani. The accused have been identified as Raja Mohammad Hasan Multaba alias Johnny, his wife Rita, and their customers Vinod, Munish, Rakesh, Gulab Rana Khattoli and Khushi.

The Haveli from where the racket was allegedly being run is about a hundred years old and is said to have been given in inheritance by the erstwhile maharaja of Patiala to Hasan. Hasan’s father, Raja Kalim Ali, and grandfather, Raja Akbar Ali, were previously holding the charge.

The racket was busted by the Panchkula Crime Investigating Agency (CIA) headed by Inspector Karamvir Singh. Mobile phones, a country-made pistol and live cartridges were recovered from the accused. A scorpio car with red beacon fixed atop has also been recovered.

"It was their daily business. The main accused Hasan said that as he was short of money, he started this 'business'. He charged customers Rs 1,000 and daily around 20-30 customers visited,” said Inspector Karamvir Singh.

“In fact, Hasan’s wife had died earlier after suffering burn injuries and Rita is his second wife. They have an eight-year-old son too who has been handed over to the sarpanch and other villagers of the area,” the inspector added.

The local villagers had gathered around the place when the police were conducting raids. The police had received a tip off that such a racket was being run in the area. One of the accused, Gulab Rana, is the former president of District Kisan Club.

Police files chargesheet against SI
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, September 13
The UT police today filed a detailed chargesheet against Chandigarh Police sub-inspector Jaspal Singh Bhullar in a local court here on Thursday in connection with a case pertaining to the death of a motorcyclist.

Earlier in June, 2012, after one-year long re-investigation into a fatal road accident, Bhullar was held responsible for rash and negligent driving causing death.

The re-investigation, conducted by a SIT of Haryana crime branch, also established that while misusing his power being an in-charge of the police post-22, Bhullar had managed to lodge an FIR against the deceased, Gagandeep Singh, and a pillion-rider, Mandeep Singh.

The incident took place when a Santro car being driven by SI Bhullar rammed into the motorcycle of Gagadeep at the traffic lights near Kiran Theatre in Sector 22 in June, 2009. Mandeep Singh was the pillion-rider and sustained injuries on his legs.

Gagandeep, a resident of Moga district in Punjab, had succumbed to his injuries in the PGI after two days of the incident on June 29, 2009. Meanwhile, instead of taking any action against Jaspal, the Chandigarh police had lodged an FIR against Gagandeep and Manjeet at the Sector 17 police station.

The deceased's father, Balwinder Singh, had approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking re-investigation into the case from the CBI or any other state police in February, 2011. The High Court directed the DGP, Haryana police, to form a special investigation team (SIT) for the re-investigation in July 13, 2011.

Though no major players will be seen in action during the tourney, fans have pinned their hopes on the younger brigade to pocket the title and do the nation proud.

The first day will witness Yuki Bhambri opening India's Davis Cup campaign against New Zealand’s Daniel King Turner while Vishnu Vardhan playing on all three days will take on Jose Statham in the singles category. He, along with Divij Sharan, will face Michael Venus and Artem Sitak on the second day. On the last day, Yuki will lock horns with Statham while Vishnu will face Daniel in the second reverse singles.

As per Kiwi’s non-playing captain Marcel Vos, the lads are looking forward to face the Indian squad on their home turf. “Now, we are familiar with the conditions here. The players have seen the opponents and are ready to take advantage of every mistake and opportunity,” said Vos.

It is for the second time in the past 18 years that the Indian Davis Cup team will neither have Leander Paes nor Mahesh Bhupathi in the final line-up.
