Designs on men
While the fashion industry for women is busy spinning millions, we take a look at Chandigarh-based designers who focus on men and find out how they assess fashion for them...
Vasudha Gupta

The elite ladies of Chandigarh would do anything, but never share details of this one prized possession. Boutique owners are put in the 'secrets' list, and no one knows where the glorious Anarkalis and Kaftans come from. As Chandigarh emerges a winner in designers for women, we look at the other side - places where men can look around in case they want to go a bit suave.

She worked with fashion gurus Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla and she will do all that it takes to dress you guys up. Sahiba J Singh, a popular name in the Punjab fashion circuit, completed her diploma in apparel manufacturing and designs from SNDT, Polytechnic. After her internship with the designer duo, just like any other designer, she forayed into women's wear. "In 2000, Mumbai did not have a vast Sikh community but my main clients were Vikram Chatwal, Malkit Singh, Navjot Singh Sidhu; so it was not a bad idea at all," she says. Her own wedding in 2005 brought her to Chandigarh and gave her ample opportunity to live up to the Punjabi surname. Year 2008 and her label Sahiba J Singh started making waves.

"At one point, I only had a very traditional client list. Today, men are more dramatic and love going a bit crazy in dressing," she says. This explains her order book filled with off-beat combinations like ferozi and yellow. Working on a Phulkari collection for men, the upcoming season will have her create Phulkari salwars, jackets with Phulkari placements and matching juttis. Sahiba is glad that Punjabi men are aware of what they want.

There is another name focused on taking menswear to a more global level. Armed with a graduation from the coveted NIFT, Shweta Uttam went to intern under Raymond and moved on to ITC. Her stint at Triburg got her in touch with several international brands like Armani. Her very own label, Shoolin Designs opened shop in 2011."The change in fashion sensibilities is very domestic. The focus on structure and form is not as much as it should be," says Shweta. She is certain that the upcoming wedding season will focus more on cuts. Taking a cue from international fashion, even her latest collection will focus on 'black on black' and the 'ash rock' looks.

A well-established name among the elite in Delhi, this graduate from the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York, has recently added his men's wear collection in Ludhiana. Dhuv Viash came back to India after a rather endearing work profile at Calvin Klein and Walter Baker; he also worked with Rohit Bal for a year-and-a-half.

"Men have started experimenting with colours. Soon, there will be shorter sherwanis as well," he adds. One of his loved creations is a salwaar made with 10 meters of fabric for the groom. "I have recently also designed cowl pants in velvet for men," he says. Looking at the growing market, he appreciates how men are embracing the Indian style. It's a whole lot of Jodhpuri suits, Jawhar jackets and Jodhpuri pants.

"Designing for men is always more fun. The reason is that they hardly have any hang-ups," says Ritika Suri, a Chandigarh-based designer. "How many times have you seen a man fret over the colour or the cut?" she questions. We hope you are still not coordinating your dresses with your fiancé for you D-day guys!

Travolta in dock

A California pilot, who claims to have had a high-flying gay affair with John Travolta, is now revealing details about their alleged six-year relationship. In a National Enquirer story labelled “ridiculous” by Travolta’s camp, Gotterba claims that he first met the Grease star in February 1981 when he interviewed for a pilot job and by September they were lovers.

“I know the date (the affair began) because I still have the log book and records,” told Gotterba to a publication.

The 62-year-old said they flew to Monterey, California, together and shared a “fantastic” bottle of merlot wine over dinner at the Highlands resort in Carmel.

“I got the sense I was being courted,” Gotterba said.

“As we walked from the restaurant back to the room, John suddenly said, “Hey, would you like a massage?’” he said.

Gotterba said he’d expected the invitation, and the massage quickly led to sex.

“John was gentle but very passionate. The next day he told me with a big smile on his face, ‘I really enjoyed last night,’” Gotterba said.

Gotterba said the 58-year-old actor took him on more romantic trips to Hawaii, Amsterdam and Kenya.

“Sometimes he’d bring women along as beards, but he would ask me to join him in his suite and we’d spend the nights together. It was our little secret,” Gotterba said.

The pilot said he encouraged Travolta to get a girlfriend as cover, and that’s when the actor started dating Brooke Shields.

“There was no chemistry between them. They’d smile for the cameras and everyone assumed they were a couple,” he said.

The affair ended in 1986 after growing tensions, Gotterba said.

“He’d show up on my door many times, unannounced, to check up on me,” he said.

“He’d disappear into my bedroom and go through my drawers. He always tried to catch me cheating on him,” Gotterba said.

He said Travolta would ignore him for days if he didn’t drop everything to be with him on a moment’s notice.

Their last meeting was years later in 1992, after Travolta married actress Kelly Preston.

“We were making small talk when suddenly, I blurted out, ‘So, John, tell me. Now that you’re married, do you still prefer men – or women?’” Gotterba said he asked Travolta.

He added that Travolta replied in the affirmative saying “Well, Doug, I still prefer men”. — ANI

Alka Kalra’s paintings capture nature in different moods
Vasudha Gupta

Art really has no boundaries. It goes far beyond norms. The finest part of being an artist is just discovering the love for colours. Alka Kalra was a conventional MBA graduate with enough experience in her kitty. “But I always knew art was my calling,” she says. Her affair with the colour palette began in Class VI and today it all comes together at Girl in the Cafe.

Exhibiting 15 works from her nature, landscapes and dhaba series, her passion for flowers also comes in her floral footwear. “Despite my work pressure, I never left painting,” she shares. Gifting her artwork to family and friends got her going. Without much technical training in art, she sent her creation to the Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi. “I won the first prize in the competition, themed on Chandigarh heritage,” she adds.

Alka quit her job and took training in art. Spending a lot of time at workshops, she imbibed several skills and polished her talent. Her love grew when she read about Van Gough and Monet. “My nature collection is my own understanding of a rose in an abstract manner. It is a throw of colours with no definite use of brush,” she smiles. “Like here,” she says, pointing to a painting of earthen pots in front of colourful wall. “It’s my balcony. It was just so beautiful I thought I should paint it,” she says.

Initially a bit hesitant because of her lack of professional training, she has been able to make up by attending countless workshops and reading books. “My series on Buddha was bought by Nirvana, a leading restaurant in Ludhiana,” she says.

For this mother of two, it is more about looking at abstract as a journey. “When Piet Mondrian started painting trees, they were realistic enough. After a while, they turned out to be just trees,” she says, justifying how she defines abstract.

Such a joke!

Joker

Starring: Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha, Shreyas Talpade and Minissha Lamba

In 1947 when the maps of India and Pakistan were being drawn, an oversight ensured that the village of Paglapur didn’t find a place in either country. The village had the distinction of housing the largest mental asylum in the region and in the melee that ensued during Partition, the asylum inmates broke loose, drove away the villagers and established their own republic in Paglapur. And that’s how it stayed for the next 60 years! While the world outside changed, Paglapur remained isolated, with no electricity, television or sanity!

Now, decades after the world forgot this village, a NASA scientist of Indian origin, Agastya and his beautiful wife, Diva, find themselves on the road to Paglapur. Agastya is working on a top secret project for creating a device to communicate with aliens. So why is he in a village whose colourful inhabitants include a man who speaks in gibberish, another who thinks he is a lamp post and everyone else who think Mahatma Gandhi is still around, fighting for independence? And more importantly, what are they going to do that will soon turn the universe’s spotlight on this forgotten village?

Average share

Overall the music is also average along with the storyline. The forced laughter makes Joker a worthless movie.

Flop show

Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha wear tacky attires but fail to produce any kind of humour. Although Akshay has tried not to disappoint the audience with his out-and-out comedy act but Sonakshi’s act is not at all that convincing.

Rishul Bhandari, bank employee

Not worth the hype

Personally I was expecting cute aliens like ET or Jaadu but the aliens in this flick are so monstrous looking. So it is like every other movie which gains hype because of its unusual concept but has nothing much to offer.

More than skin-deep!
Beauty care has now come out of the parlours as more and more clinics are offering permanent solutions to skin and hair problems
Manpriya Singh

No one can say this about the beauty, but the beauty treatment is skin-deep! From the first acne in teenage years to the stretch marks post-pregnancy, once upon a time the beauty parlour around the street tried taking care of everything. But that was once upon a time…how many would now trust even a dermatologist employed in a beauty salon when it comes to skin problems?

Awareness grows

Even as the concept of parlours has branched out into spa and salons, their roles are not far behind. "That's because the concept has changed altogether. People are much more educated now and have far more awareness. They know that they should be treated from inside first and then outside and not vice-versa," shares Dr Ashima Goel, dermatologist at Parisa Skin Cosmetic and Laser Centre. Perhaps, very few believe that a burst of acne will get fine with a few sittings of facials. Then there are a lot of beautification options with dermatologists. Says Dr KM Kapoor, of Anti-Clock-Age reversal clinic and Medispa, "We have laser hair reduction for which not just women, but even men come. Then for pigmentation there's microdermabrasion and there are photo-facials and chemical peels. For wrinkle treatments there's botox and there are fillers.

Adds Dr Ashima Goel, "I recently got a patient who had vegetable peel done from one of the leading beauty salons in Chandigarh. He ended up with pimples. People now know that for any treatment, their skin needs to be analysed first. They come to us asking what sunscreen to use, what moisturiser will suit them and what ingredients should their anti-ageing cream have." For a cause that's inside, can't be cured from the outside!

Common woes

What gets them maximum calls is one of the most visible problems. Says Dr Maleeka Sachdev, "Among the teenagers, acne is the most common problem." Something that needs to be treated internally and something they seem to have well-realised. There is an echo. Nods Dr Ashima Goel, "For the youngsters, acne, sunburn and suntan are the most common problems. For people in a slightly higher age-bracket, pigmentation, anti-ageing and stretch marks remain the most common problems."

Salon vs clinic

Given the difference in roles, it is no more an 'either-or' situation. As one of the doctors says, "We can almost have water-tight compartments." Explains Dr Nishtha Juneja, former dermatologist at Government Hospital, Ludhiana, "It's not like dermatologists are replacing beauty salons and parlours, it's just that they have widely different roles to play and people have begun to realise that." Says Dr Maleeka Sachdev, dermatologist based in Sector 18, Chandigarh, "It would be very unfortunate if we aren't able to differentiate between a medical problem and a cosmetic problem." She adds, "Beauty parlours and salons should be resorted to for beautification and not for treatment."

Nowadays, cosmetic and laser centres claim to take care of every beauty problem while every beauty salon will promise the advice of skin experts! "These days a lot of beauty parlours have rephrased themselves as skin clinics. But just as you wouldn't go to a dermatologist for wedding make-up, you shouldn't go to a parlour for treatment of pigmentation," says Dr Sangeeta Saluja, cosmetologist with a Chandigarh-based salon. "A reason why people prefer dermatologists with beauty treatments is that everyone today has opened a beauty parlour. People are more aware and search on Internet and trust their skin with the doctors,' shares Betty Nangia, beauty and diet consultant.

In real life though, we hope sorting the two out was just as easy!

The business of beauty
Having made humble beginnings, owners of various beauty salons in Ludhiana are taking their businesses forward with the avid support of their generation next
Gurvinder Singh

From the days people would ape the look of Amitabh Bachhans, Rajesh Khannas and Sunny Deols to the times of Amir Khans and Gippy Grewals, they have seen it all. Having perfected the beauty as well as business over the years, the generation next is taking the baton of 'beauty' forward. Salons and parlours in Ludhiana are taking the next leap, banking on the experience of family and influenced by the next generation.

Shaping it up

Shiv Sharma started as a hairdresser during the 1960's at Oberois. He styled many Bollywood celebrities of the day, including stars like Nargis Dutt, Reena Roy and Tina Munim, before he set up Shape Up. His wife Neelam joined him in the business. His son Sundaram Sharma learnt dressing at L'Oreal International Hair Dressing Academy, Paris, and remained the personal stylist of Sunny Deol before joining the family business. He met his wife Shweta at the L'oreal Academy and now they are settled in Ludhiana. "Despite having learnt from experts, we still get to learn from our parents, as they have more than thirty years of experience," says Shweta.

Grace of beauty

Indra Ahluwalia built up Grace from a single room at their Model Town residence (in 1982) to a multi-branch beauty business. She is indefatigable when it comes to beautifying people. When the business started growing, her husband MJ Ahluwalia joined in to support her in 1997 and he helped open new branches. The chain now has five branches at prime locations in Ludhiana. Their son Yuvraj completed his Business and Salon Management degree from London and also learnt the latest hairstyling techniques at Vidal Academy. Within three months of coming back to India, he is already training people at the Grace Academy and managing two salons.

Family affair

Seven years into her beauty business at Muktsar, Aarti Girdhar shifted to Ludhiana in 1997 looking for more opportunities. Her son Abhay, trained at Javed Habib's Institute, joined Piazza about a decade back and his wife Pooja joined the business after marriage. "You can learn professionalism and skills at institutes, but taking care of clients and making them comfortable is something I have learnt from my mother," he says.

Doc Talk
For heart’s sake
Swapana Singla

Hypertension is an outcome of obesity that puts a lot of load on your heart, making its pumping capacity weak. So, if an obese individual is diagnosed with hypertension the first advice given by the doctor is to exercise and lose weight in addition to the medication.

Work it out

Exercise mainly causes dilatation of all your blood vessels because it has to supply blood to all the cells.

nt causes the release of endorphins, adrenaline which further decreases the pressure in the vessels.

It helps mobilisation of fats and thus even if it is deposited in the lumen.

It Increases the effect of body insulin so glucose and fats are utilised.

Mild effect on hormones causes sodium excretion, which further decreases resistance in blood flow.

Exercise acts as a stress buster due to the release of endorphins which further helps tackle hypertension seen at an early age due to tension.

Do’s

Since the heart should not be put to stress, the aim of doubling your heart rate should be restricted.

Low intensity cardio, with low intensity heavy weights. This is to avoid sudden mobilisation or dislodgement of any clot type formation with your blood lumen.

Concentrate on reducing your upper body weight, by strengthening your abdominal and back muscles.

Leg raises and cycling helps strengthen your thighs and legs which helps your calf muscles to pump blood to your heart.

Walking with 2.5kgs weight tied to each leg for half an hour twice a day if you don’t want to go to the gym.

Meditation in the form of yoga or prayers can give mental peace.

Smart choice

Go for low salt diet. The main aim of low salt is to restrict processed food completely like papads, pickles, jams, cheese, namkeens, carbonated drinks, packaged fruit juices and biscuits.

Cut down fat from your food. You can have two phulkas with one teaspoon ghee or butter. Fat means excessive consumption of red meat, alcohol, mayonnaise, fried food and refined food.

Steamed foods like idli, dhokla, momos and steamed vegetables. Eat roasted food instead of deep fried food. Increase your fibre intake with raw or less cooked vegetables and fruits. Many a time consumption of one spoon of isabgol with one glass of water can really reduce your cholesterol level.

Have whole wheat atta phulkas over maida.

Avoid snacking with alcohol and never mix your hard drinks with aerated drinks or juices.

Include fats rich in HDL cholesterol and essential fatty acids, like fishes, groundnuts, walnuts and olive oil.

Use lemon and garlic as seasoning for all your preparations.

Belt the cat

If you have big flabby abdomen, use an abdominal trimmer belt especially while eating to avoid overeating. Do not wear it while sleeping. This belt can really play wonders if used properly. Consult your doctor and your trainer for the belt usage.

For A-listers

But it is sad some people are not fat or obese but hypertensive even in their early thirties due to their Type A personality and competitive nature. Type A personality people are over ambitious, competitive, cannot accept failures or losses, pessimist and highly organised and principled. These kinds of people do not see the fun part of life.

The best way to reduce hypertension is to walk and talk with your loved ones and family everything and anything that is there in your mind.

Food on stone
Khyber gets a new name and an interesting menu
Mona

When Khyber, one of the oldest ethnic Indian restaurants in Chandigarh, gets a new name Pashtun, the announcement comes with a food festival called Pathar Ke Kebab. No, no, please don’t take it wrong, it’s not kababs made of pathar but cooked on them.

Stone cooking that’s been popular in Afghanistan is what chef and partner Sanjiv Verma wanted to experiment at Pashtun. So they sourced stones for Himachal Pradesh for cooking. “Stone cooking lends an altogether different flavour. And, the food served on stones remains hot for considerable time,” says Sanjiv.

So comes from the kitchen paneer khajoor ka kebab, gosht pathar ka kebab, machli hara dhania ka kebab and more.

Standing true to its more than two-decade-old tradition, the food here has rather rustic flavour and thankfully without the Punjabi tadka. And the combinations are unique. Ever had chicken and blueberry together? Well, they make an interesting combination when cooked on stones. Palak ki hari biryani is yet another sumptuous option. Also on platter are saat dane ki roti, masala roti, keema biryani, malai soy chop and aloo anardana ka kebab. Also on are their signature dishes sikandari raan, khumb makki masala and daal. The rustic ambience with laltens dotted across the wooden and copper interiors is pretty welcoming.

The kebabs are priced Rs 160 onwards. The festival is on till September 8.

Paella & salsa

Spanish fever catches Chandigarh with a pulsating beat at the city’s premier destinations – The Blue Blazer and The Pewter Room – all through September, starting from August 31.

This festival (called fiesta in Spanish) is dedicated to the exuberance of Spain, bringing alive the culture and cuisine that has captivated and entranced many across the globe. The festival promises scintillating dance performances, a hand-picked menu of Spanish delicacies and a selection of the finest wines from different regions of Spain.

The menu allows you to savour the tastes and flavours of fiery Spanish cuisine. Start off with the tapas, delicious Spanish snacks like the croquetas de pescado (crumbed fritters of fish, mashed potato and parsley), the chorizo al pimentos (spicy Spanish sausage in a tomato, pepper and onion sauce), or the pimentos con queso (sweet red peppers stuffed with soft cream cheese). The main course offers variations of paella, a traditional saffron-flavoured Spanish rice dish with assorted vegetables, meat or seafood. Also on the menu are dishes like the pollo a la catalana (chicken catalan style is a rich dish in which the chicken is browned, then simmered in a sauce of prunes, raisins, pine nuts, onions, tomatoes and white wine, served with white rice), or the alubias blancas con chorizo/verduras (white beans with choice of chorizo sausage or vegetables. All served with white rice). There is also a heady selection of desserts like the helados bambe (dairy vanilla ice cream with milk chocolate sauce centre, coated in white chocolate, topped with chocolate flakes), the tapas mint cake (cool mint flavoured mousse on a digestive biscuit base, topped with chocolate sauce), and the custard fruit flan (a tender biscuit pastry, filled with custard and topped with fruits).

The festival also brings together a selection of fine wines from Spain. Begin the evening with a pitcher of sangria with fresh fruit, and move on to some full-bodied red wines like the Torres Gran Coronas and the Torres Sangre de Toro. Also on offer are some chilled whites like the Torres Vina Esmeralda and the Torres Vina Sol. —TNS

Star track
From Rome to India
Spanish beauty Penelope Cruz loves everything Indian...

To Rome with Love is a kaleidoscopic comedy movie set in one of the world’s most enchanting cities. The film brings us into contact with a well-known American architect reliving his youth, an average middle-class Roman who suddenly finds himself Rome’s biggest celebrity; a young provincial couple drawn into separate romantic encounters; and an American opera director endeavouring to put a singing mortician on stage.

The steamy Spanish actress, Penelope Cruz and the finicky American director, Woody Allen may seem, at face value, like the consummate odd couple. And yet, together they can make magic. Their first collaboration, 2008's  Vicky Cristina Barceleno earned Cruz her first Oscar for her turn as a tempestuous, unstable artist. Allen cast Cruz because he appreciates her gifts. She's just a wonderful, natural actress, full of fire and vitality and humor when she wants to call upon it. She is very intense as an actress and does put a lot of effort and work into her role. Cruz is fluent in Spanish, English, French and Italian, and she filmed the role entirely in the language of love. She worked with an acting coach to lose any traces of Spanish and otherwise relished getting a little loose on-screen.

Tell us what inspired you to sign up for “To Rome with love”?

The real reason I signed on to this European-based Sony Classics comedy was to follow up Vicki Cristina Barcelona and once again work with one of the biggest names in the entertainment industry.

Tell us about your character in the movie?

My character is of a hooker who makes prostitution seem like a desirable profession. She is very professional, she looks at this job with dignity, and she wants to be the best at it. She is convinced she is helping people, and is really necessary for society.

How different was it working with Woody this time?

It was easier this time because I knew Woody, so I wasn’t so nervous because of all the stories you hear about him. He is peculiar and unique and different, but it is really a blessing to spend time with him. He is one of the funniest people in the world. Every day he does something that surprises you and that you will remember forever.

What do you think of the Indian Film industry?

I love India, it is very special country and I have been there several times. I am a great fan of Indian cinema and I would love to work with Shah Rukh Khan. Besides I also have the rights to a book which was inspired by the true story of 17-year-old Spanish flamenco dancer Anita Delgado. She scandalised people in the early 1900s when she agreed to marry an Indian king, Maharaja Jagatjit Singh Bahadur, and settle in his native land. We are going to shoot the movie in India.

Would you like to explore the Indian film industry?

Yes After spending money on Shekhar Kapur’s Pani which was a huge success, I am extremely excited about the next project to invest in. Besides I would love to work in a traditional Indian movie. I love the culture.

Did Lilo trash Taylor’s love nest?
Lindsay Lohan lands in trouble over the misuse of Taylor’s trailer

The owner of Elizabeth Taylor’s “love nest” has accused Lindsay Lohan of destroying her property, racking up 100,000 dollars in damages while the actress was filming the legendary actress’ biopic Liz and Dick. The lavishly-decorated trailer was specially built so the actress could spend private time with new love Richard Burton while filming Cleopatra in 1963.

Fox studios spent more than 75,000 dollars in 1963 (half a million in today’s dollars) to create the “love nest,” as it came to be called.

Angel Alger, a Taylor fan, spent her life savings to purchase the 50,000-dollar trailer in June, and two days later she loaned it to Silver Screen Pictures to be used by Lohan for the filming of Liz & Dick. “I was specifically told that it would come back in pristine condition and in even better condition than it was at that time,” Alger said.

She was shocked at the damage done when it was returned. Devastated, she details cigarette burns on fabric, furniture and on a picture of Taylor.

Dishes and a mirror were broken, and Alger claimed that a valuable antique rocking chair that the legendary actress sat in is missing.

She believes the troubled actress trashed her trailer, saying that a studio employee told her that Lohan and her friends had access to it each night after filming.

“Only a psychotic and rebellious person or people would steal irreplaceable museum belongings and leave it in this vandalised condition,” Alger said.

Alger has no evidence yet to finger Lohan, but says she’s collected cigarette butts from the trailer as possible proof.

However, Lohan’s publicist denied the claim, saying that his client did not destroy the trailer.

“This has nothing to do with Lindsay. You should ask the producers about it,” Honig said. — ANI

Fame shook Daniel Craig

Actor Daniel Craig admits signing up to play James Bond was hard for him. It took him some time to adjust to being an A-list star and was shaken up by becoming famous.

"It threw me for a loop, quite honestly. It really shook me up and made me look at the world in a different way. It changed my life," said Craig.

"It just confused the hell out of me. Fame and fortune, for want of a better expression, is very scary. My background is not well off. And there aren't many people you can ask for advice about dealing with that," he said.

The 44-year-old likes to purchase nice things for himself but is careful never to lose his head to the money he has made. — IANS

Exploring newer pastures

Best known for her performance in Dor and Salman Khan starrer Wanted, actress Ayesha Takia, who will be seen hosting a singing reality show, says she wants to do things other than films for the time being.

Ayesha is making her debut on small screen as the host for singing reality show Sur-Kshetra that would have a mix of both Indian and Pakistani singers.

After making her debut in Bollywood in 2004 with Tarzaan - The Wonder Car that got her the best debut actress award, Ayesha did several films like Imtiaz Ali's Socha Na Tha, Dil Maange More with Shahid Kapoor and later Nagesh Kukunoor's critically acclaimed Dor (2006) and commercially successful film Wanted (2009).

"Right now I have not signed any film. I am just trying to understand and experience few things about me and about my life. I don't think as of now films fit into it. —PTI

Gosling’s new roles...

Ryan Gosling will be adding film writer and director credits to his resume with new movie How to Catch a Monster. According to a magazine, Mad Men actress Christina Hendricks will be starring in the movie.

The pair had appeared together in the 2011 film Drive. How to Catch a Monster has been described as a “modern day fairytale” that centres on a single mother (played by Hendricks) who’s “swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town.” Marc Platt and Adam Siegel will be producing the movie with Marc Platt Productions.

“I am very appreciative to [producers] Marc Platt, Adam Siegel and Bold Films for being so supportive and I look forward to making this film with all of them,” Gosling said.

Other cast members haven’t been announced yet and there’s no word on whether Gosling will also portray a character in the film. Principal photography will be starting next spring. — ANI

Jacqueline’s loss, Esha’s gain

Bold and beautiful: Esha Gupta

Esha Gupta bagged Raaz 3 because Jacqueline Fernandez had a problem with some bold scenes and costumes. In one scene, it is depicted that Esha's character is running nude because of an attack of flying cockroaches. Mahesh Bhatt co-directed this scene and Bipasha helped Esha do the scene too.

Ready for ACT II

The superhit romantic lead pair of Nausheen Ali Sardar and Anuj Saxena that had stormed the nation with their on-screen chemistry in the hit TV show Kkusum is back on the small screen with a new show, Pyaar Ya Dehshat. However, this isn't all. The two will not be romancing on-screen but doing some serious stuff. This time around, it's a non-fiction show showcasing real life love stories gone wrong. Sounds interesting!

Bold and the beast

Rohit Khurana, who rose to fame with Uttaran, will be seen in Shashi-Sumeet Mittal Productions' in the lead role with Sargun Mehta. The story based on the fantasy tale, Beauty And The Beast, will see Sargun in a beautiful young girl's role, while Rohit will play the beast. We catch up with Rohit who tells us more about the show…

What made you accept the role?

I have always taken a risk with all the characters that I have played on TV till date. Likewise, even this role is a very challenging one. Here, I am getting to play a very interesting role of a Radio Jockey. Plus I get to work with a well known production house and a channel like Sony. What else can one ask for?

So, will this be an out-and-out negative role?

No, in fact this is for the first time that I will be playing a very positive character.

But then you're playing the beast?

Yes, I am, but the audience will have to see the show to understand my character. I have done grey shades in the past, but have never done an out-and-out negative or positive character.

Is this is the kind of role you were looking forward to play?

Television is a place where you have to wait to get good and meaty roles. It's not like you get one show after the other. If you do, you are extremely lucky.

Bollywood calling!

Bharti Singh will soon be seen in a movie. She is playing an important part in the Akshay Kumar-Asin starrer comic film Khiladi 786. The film is being directed by debutant Ashish Mohan, who had assisted Rohit Shetty during Golmaal. Incidentally, Rohit Shetty is also the stunt director of this film. Go girl!

Cupid strikes again

Sara Khan has always managed to remain in the news but mostly for wrong reasons. Sara Khan made headlines after her marriage with actor Ali Merchant on Bigg Boss in October, 2010 followed by their split and divorce within a year. Still, things seem to be improving on the personal front for the actress now, as she has fallen in love all over again. The actress is allegedly dating Paras Chhabra, a contestant from season five of Splitsvilla. They met in April at a common friend's party and hit it off instantly. Moreover, they have started putting their lovey-dovey pictures on their mobile phones. The actress often writes PC (Paras Chhabra's initials) followed by a kissing emoticon as her BB status. Spill the beans, Sara!

Taking a call

Actor Akshay Sethi, who was seen on Star Plus' popular show Sasural Genda Phool, has surprisingly turned down the role of the main lead in a show on Sahara One. Akshay was approached to play the main lead post the leap in the show but the actor wanted to do something more exciting and interesting.
