Criminals on the prowl in East Delhi, complain RWAs
New Delhi, August 8 "A recent incident of chain snatching in Kiran Vihar has shaken the residents of the area, which comes under the jurisdiction of the Anand Vihar police station. Not a single day passes without an incident of snatching here. Criminals are active in the areas of Bahubali Enclave, Priya Enclave, Priya Enclave, Jagriti Enclave, Kiran Vihar, Karkardooma Courts and Suraj Mal Vihar," said Rajiv Setia of representative of Priya Enclave RWA. The residents said that it has become difficult to walk in the area in the evening as criminals are on the prowl. They complained that in case of snatching of mobile, purses and other valuables by snatchers, the police fails to lodge an FIR or the registering official at the Anand Vihar police station tries to downplay the incident. "Some times the police misbehaves with the complainants. In an incident even a rickshaw-puller and the person sitting on the rickshaw were robbed of their valuables, including watch and mobile phone, in the same area. And the police didn't pay heed to the complaint of the victims," said Anil Bajpai, president, RWA Federation, Delhi East. In most of the cases, victims are persuaded by the police not to lodged an FIR, especially in Patparganj and Anand Vihar police stations, said VN Bali, convenor , RWA Federation, East Delhi. The encroachment and illegal constructions are also on the increase in this area. "About 10 illegal borewells have been dug up in each colony and the police takes a hefty amount for allowing this practice. Similarly, all the pavements in the Anand Vihar area are encroached upon. We have demanded an immediate transfer of SHO of the Anand Vihar area and vigilance
inquiry into his deeds," said Manmohan Mehra of Kiran Vihar RWA. |
Fire official held for demanding Rs 1.5L bribe
New Delhi, August 8 The complainant had alleged that he had approached the licencing branch of the Delhi police for changing the name of the owner on his hotel's licence. The department had sought clearance from various agencies, including the fire department. But when he approached the fire department, Khokhar allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh for giving him the clearance. On his complaint, a case was registered against Khokhar under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Subsequently, the CBI laid a trap and last evening, Khokhar was caught red-handed accepting the first installment of the bribe-- Rs 50,000. Searches were conducted at his house and Rs 3 lakh and some incriminating documents were seized. Khokhar was today produced before the special CBI judge, Tis Hazari Courts, who remanded him to judicial custody till August 24. |
Civic bodies seek funds for schemes
New Delhi, August 8 The Leader of the House in the South Delhi Municipal Corporation
(SDMC), Subhash Arya demanded 100 per cent share of the funds for implementing the various schemes of the Central and Delhi governments, which are to be carried out by the three corporations. He complained that the corporations are facing a financial crunch. The major source of revenue for the civic bodies is property tax and there is a steep fall in its collection because of the unit area method. "The unified corporation had the shortfall of Rs 1,285.97 crore and there is a 75 per cent shortfall in non-plan. We asked the Delhi government to release this fund to cover up the gap," said
Arya. SDMC Mayor Meera Aggrawal said that the quarterly cheque given by the Delhi government as grant must be given in the beginning. The problem of shortage of manpower in the corporations was also put forth by the delegation. "Almost 2,000 posts in various departments are vacant. We asked the government to take action to fill in these posts immediately," said
Arya. |

A series of such rallies will be held by students of different schools in different colonies across the NDMC area," said Arora.
