Trader shot at: Unidentified robbers shot at a cloth trader and looted his bag containing Rs 3 lakh here today. He was rushed to a private hospital where he is fighting for life. The incident took place when the victim Munish Khanna was on his way back home to Rishi Vihar on Majitha Road. The bullet pierced his chest leading to critical injuries. The doctors at the hospital said his condition was very critical.

Poppy husk seized: The police has arrested drug peddlars, Manpreet Singh and Sarbjit alias Sabi of Jabbowal village ad Varinder Singh alias Binda of Mahalon village after 120 kg of poppy husk and a car was recovered from their possession by police patrol parties led by Sadar SHO Hardip Kumar at the various nakas in the district. Varinder Singh and Manjit Singh allegedly smuggled the poppy husk from Chiitorgarh in Rajasthan in a car they had borrowed from one of their friends. Separate cases under relevant sections of the NDPS Act have been registered against them, said Satish Malhotra, DSP.

Man killed: Sukhwinderpal, nephew of former BJP councillor Bira Ram Baljot, was killed when his motorcycle overturned near Palahai village last evening. He was taken to the Civil Hospital, from where he was referred to a Ludhiana hospital. But he succumbed to his injuries. 

Three held: The police arrested Sandip Kumar of SBS Nagar, Gobind of Satnampura and Vikki of Hadiabad with one stolen motorcycle and 25 g of intoxicant powder.
