Fiza’s Controversial saga comes to a tragic end
Mohali, August 6
The maggot-ridden body of Fiza Mohammed aka Anuradha Bali, ex-wife of former Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan, was found under mysterious circumstances at her Sector 48 residence in Mohali this morning.

3rd suspect son of head constable
Panchkula, August 6
In yet another big revelation, it has come to light that the third suspect involved in a car jacking in Panchkula, Inder Preet, alias Peri, is the son of a head constable of the Chandigarh police. Peri is a student of BA II at DAV College, Sector 10, Chandigarh. Two of the seven-member carjacking gang were arrested near Jalandhar a few days ago. Peri has absconded.

Schools wake from slumber after CBSE issues show-cause notice
Chandigarh, August 6
After the Central Board of Secondary Education issued a show-cause notice to about 1,000 of its affiliated schools in Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana for not providing information regarding implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act, as necessitated after an order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, schools have started sending in the details.

Students to spread healthy eating habits
Chandigarh: A student club, "Sanjeevani Manch", was formed at Government Model High School, Sec 34, to create awareness among students about the importance of various plants, fruits, vegetables and food grains. Two health ambassadors — Varinda and Mayank — and 21 members each from Classes VI to X were selected, who will spread awareness regarding nutrition value of eatable items to other students. For this, students were advised to collect information regarding food value of these eatable items from newspapers, magazines, internet etc. Students were told to avoid aerated drinks and junk food such as burgers, pizzas, and samosas.

BANUR, AUGUST 6
Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today inspected the four- lane project of Chandigarh-Bathinda road at Banur. After considering the map of the project, he said the project would cost Rs 2,500 crore. Punjab was all set to link all major towns with four or six lane roads in next two years with the total expenditure of Rs 13,000 crore.

12 injured in road mishap
Kalka, August 6
As many as 12 persons, including women and children, sustained multiple injuries in a road mishap in which a car collided with an autorickshaw.

Thieves decamp with revolver, laptop
Mohali, August 6
Thieves decamped with a revolver, a laptop, cash and other items from a house in Sector 69. Tejinder Singh told the police that he, along with other members of his family, had gone to Gurgaon on August 3. His neighbours informed him of theft. He said when he came back home, he saw that the house was ransacked. He found that a Germany-made revolver, a laptop, Rs 30,000, three cameras, four watches and a silver tea-set were missing. The police has registered a case under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC in this regard.

Three robbers arrested, one at large

A day after a city resident was allegedly robbed of Rs 19,000 near the Police Lines, the police has arrested three of the four accused in the case.
